What is wrong with your old car? I changed a clutch age 21 with a few tools and a Haynes manual. Maybe give son the challenge of fixing your old one, then he can have it?0

head gasket and some belt, and the engine is on its way out. the car is too short for him anyway0

A friend of mine is 6ft7 and drives a skoda fabia.
No idea about insurance but they are reasonably priced second hand.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
When you get to insurance a black box can make insurance cheaper provided your son doesn't think he is Lewis Hamilton!0

You mention a Hyundai i20: I have an iX20, which has a higher roofline so would be better for your son's height. I am 5'6" and there is loads of headroom above me. Just one consideration: there would be enough legroom for your son, but not a lot for any passenger behind him. That would be true of any small car, especially the Kia Picanto. My gdaughter has one of those and she is a big girl, her partner taller. There is plenty of legroom for them, but little for anyone behind them (including me at 5'6"!)
Although the Picanto is a '55' plate and has given her 3 years of great service.
I think you need to consider something a little larger.I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

GunJack, how much did you have to put in for repairs etc, did it pass it's MOTs without fail etc, because I was thinking if I buy such a cheapo car there will be repairs coming up instantly.....
Anyway, I work in the school he still attends, so one car for the two of us good enough for the time being, once he is of to Uni things will change obviously, but that is next year (and on his money....)
My lad's Suzi has had £360 in total spent on it to get it through 3 MoTs. My Fusion has had similar to get through 2.
So, his in total for 3.5 years including buying the car = £810.
Mine, for 2.5 years including buying the car = £370 (yes, my Fusion cost me a tenner to buy).
edit:- oops, forgot £130 for rear wheel bearings, so £500 total.
"Repairs" don't have to be expensive, or indeed all in one go. Cars the same, don't have to cost £kk to buy to get something decent.......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0
