I wish to purchase a basic PAYG mobile phone with an SOS button for emergencies for an elderly relative.

The ones I have looked at so far ( on Amazon) only appear to work on the 2G network.

Does anyone know how long 2G will be available and who still provides 2G ?

A Google search suggested 2G could be discontinued in the UK by 2020

Thanks

Reg

There is no definite date set for the decommissioning of 2G in the UK as far as I know. There has been considerable speculation that 3G will actually go before 2G, as 2G is still useful for numerous basic automated devices.

EE, O2 and Vodafone (and all of the virtual networks who piggyback off their signals) still provide a 2G service in the UK.
