Change of nominated account

I've closed my current account and have had to update new details with a bank I have savings with. I've given them my updated nominated account number and sort code. My savings are scattered around so I've had to do this with all providers and it has been very straightforward, providing my new account details and they've done an electronic check to verify my current account. However, Shawbrook Bank, tell me they haven't been able to do this and haven't given any explanation. They're insisting I send them a photo of my debit card with numbers blanked out or a bank statement signed by the manager of the branch. They won't accept online statements either and would like a scanned colour copy of my statement they'd like me to email them. I don't have a photocopier/scanner and all my statements are online.

Did you use the switching service, as any payments into your old account would be redirected for 13 months, I think.
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.98% of current retirement "pot" (as at end April 2025)

No, I changed account with the same provider, so no switching service unfortunately.

Take a photo of your debit card with the numbers blanked out and send it to them.

Another option might be to open a second account with them, use your new bank account as the nominated account for that, and once open xfer money from old Shawbrook account to new one and thence to new nominated account.

That assumes you can have a different nominated account for each Shawbrook account which I don't know for sure is the case you can check.

That's what they told me to do. The point is, I don't believe I should have to do all this. All banks have a simple process called electronic verification. The idea of storing a photo of my bank card on my phone even temporarily feels risky.

I have been through this and it varies by bank, some did it all via online messaging, others I had to post an original bank statement from the new bank. You can temporarily turn off paperless billing for a month so they send you a paper original. Getting that signed by a bank manager seems a bit extreme, however.
