Unfair manager?
Comments
-
It's not happening on a regular basis though, is it?
It's happened once.
And with only a month's service it's really not the time to be getting arsey with a manager making a reasonable request.
There's a time and a place for picking fights at work. And this isn't it.
Choose your battles more wisely if you want to stay employed.
I didn't get arsey, I just left with the other employees who were free to go and enjoy the sunshine.
People here saying it puts me in a bad light, for me it puts the company in a bad light.... that it singles people out unfairly and if that kind of treatment continues I won't want to work for them.
You would think that after the extra hours I have worked over my time for them that they'd reward me with being free to go home early....but no it's the guys that always finish early who are free to go home early......I have to stay....It doesn't make me feel appreciated whatsoever, not good for my moral, not the way to treat an employee who has put in extra hours, never been late and done a solid job.
Like I just put it.....you work in a factory....manager says everyone is free to go home early, you are singled out to stay to do a menial task within a massive factory where there are hundreds of menial tasks that could be done......
Yeah - now you understand where I am coming from.0 -

You didn't get arsey?
You've only done half a job and if the manager asks why you're planning to tell them they're in the wrong and raise a grievance.
You keep referring to the task in question as menial - seriously, just get over yourself. We all have to do jobs once in a while that we don't like and they are generally covered in the job description under the "any other duties" clause. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
You have completely made up that it was a one man job......if it was a 1 man job such as helping the manager carry something somewhere then I would see it a lot differently....and I would react like you have....but it was NOT a one man job.
It was a menial job within a building the size of 2 football fields, where there are plenty of menial jobs that could be given to the employees coming back early. The job was given to me just for the sake of making up time....not because it had any significant importance.
Why wasn't this manager making up other employees time?
Singled out, unfair treatment.
You people think this is fine?
So if this starts happening to me on a regular basis where I am singled out to 'make up my hours' with trivial and menial tasks, whereas all other employees are free to go home early and not make up their time - you think I should accept that? and this is fine for the employer to do?..........ok! sure!
Many employees have many different roles. I can pay someone to sit on a chair all day and I can pay someone to run around a field all day...0 -

Don't feel sorry for the OP, they have their life plan all worked out in cryptocurrency and cannabis stocks. They've probably peaked job wise according to the Peter principle.
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5988276/for-those-aged-26-36-your-housing-situationThanks for all the messages....they give a better insight than this poll.....
I am currently saving. I have a huge deposit after saving for years, plus I had a big windfall in the cryptocurrency mania. I have a £180,000 deposit, but I am single, I live in one of the most expensive towns outside of London (Surrey), I have a low paying job....
So even with such a big deposit I can only afford a 1 bed apartment around here and the types of apartment I want are rare (new build, in a small block, ok area, ok size)....
So my dilemma is:
1. Do I move away - much further away, somewhere I can afford a house.
2. Do I buy an apartment, find the love of my life, then buy a house with them.
3. Do I keep renting and investing. I am into the 'risky' investments. Cannabis stocks and Cryptocurrency. I am sure crypto will go crazy again and the Cannabis sector likely has massive growth ahead. There is a life changing opportunity here, of which could mean early retirement or at least an outright buy of a 2+ bedroom house. Obviously there is money to be lost, but I feel I play this game sensibly.
It's interesting to see where I stand amongst others in my 'age group'. Although I have decent savings I still feel poor in that I can't afford to buy a house, I feel that even with all this cash - I am behind others.Originally Posted by shortcrust

Maybe, as you are new, and the others have been there longer, the manager picked you in order to give them a break. You have no idea how hard they have worked over what may be years and years, how many extra hours they have put in etc.
You've been there a month and you want to raise a grievance? You seriously need to look at your attitude!0 -
OP no 1 is against you.
If you wanted replies that agreed with you then why not say so.
Look theres always 1 job we have to do that we hate doing but we do it.
How much you getting paid for the job OP ?0
