A online asking for money 2 years after cancelled

Hello, this is my first forum post and I hope you all can help?
I received a letter today from a credit style limited acting on behalf of avonline. They were requesting I pay my outstanding bill of £220!
I closed the account in Aug 2017 and made sure I did not owe anything when the account closed, so I was shocked to receive this today. I did phone the company representing Avonline, they say I had a letter for the money in November 2018, which I did not:mad:. They have put it on hold whilst they investigate because I am adamant I owe nothing but I no longer have the emails to prove this as it was 2years ago.
