ASOS Faulty Returns Label

I bought a pair of Doc Martens for £132 from ASOS on my credit card a couple of weeks ago after finally convincing myself to buy them. They came and were too small, so after a few days I sent them back via my workplace (Experian) post room (where I don't get proof of postage).
A day later, I get an email from ASOS telling me not to use the Royal Mail returns label as it is faulty. Obviously by that point I'd already sent it - if I'd have sent it through a post office they'd have been able to tell me there and then that the label was faulty and have refused the item. But because I sent it through my workplace, they just give Royal Mail a big bag of parcels and they go off somewhere.
So they still haven't made it to ASOS and every time I contact their customer service team (who are diabolical) they tell me they won't take anything further until I provide proof of postage, which I haven't got. So I called Royal Mail and they advised that if I could get the tracking information that would've been on my returns label, they could search their system for it and that the owness is on ASOS who they have a huge contract with and could reimburse them. I went back to ASOS who then told me that due to 'technical difficulties' they didn't have record of my return details.
My issue is this - they sent me the faulty return label and notified me almost a week after I received the item. They can't provide me with the tracking information due to 'technical difficulties'. And even if the return had got to ASOS they wouldn't know because they don't know what my return label is! I've told them this several times and they just won't deal with me until I've given proof of postage that I don't have.
I'm going round in circles and I'm absolutely devastated, I really can't afford to lose this amount of money. I've notified my credit card company of the issue and they will be in contact in 3-5 days but I don't even know if that will do anything. Please can anyone advise?

I know about this. A mate in RM told me theres been a batch of tracking no that is missing its last couple of numbers from ASOS.
It will still travel as a tracked parcel but will not update on the tracking.
Rm wont be able to track it.
you need to keep pushing back to ASOS however this is the risk you run even with a working barcode.
Without POP,what would you do if it didnt update on the tracking?0
