Freeview Options

Hi,

I have recently moved into a new build and have no other options for a tv package deal apart from Sky. The building only has Sky and capabilities. I don’t like Sky Q as my folks have it and it seems to be overpriced and just not very good.

Been looking into getting a Freeview Play box so I can record and pause live tv, I’m currently using the YouView app on my BRAVIA but has not got any recording options, I have seen loads boxes online with Freeview Play, it’s a bit overwhelming so has anyone got any recommendations?

Thanks.

    Freeview is dependent on having an aerial -have you actually got an aerial feed to your new build??

    There is nothing wrong with SKY Q,costs can vary by the package you watch.
    Freeview via aerial or stream with a firestick,cost one of £40

    Checkout Freeview Play first as you cannot record or catchup all Freeview channels .
  • Yes. There is an aerial feed and sat feed.

    Just to clarify, you can certainly RECORD ALL non-subscription Freeview channels on a Humax Youview recorder. However, not all channels are available on catchup.

    Also, although there may be a TV aerial socket in the room, check whether the builder has actually put an aerial on the end of it!

    <Checkout Freeview Play>
    Freeview Play as opposed to Freeview channels .

    Better explained as not all channels on Freeview have the catchup of Freeview play facility .Only those with catchup apps/ services like BBc Iplayer More4 etc .

    Presuming it's a hybrid community dish why not a Freesat recordable box, they're not as user friendly as a Sky box but it would cover what you require.

    Humax for Freeview or Freesat is the usual goto.

    OP needs to check that, as a new build, if it's only been wired for Sky Q.

    Then your statement regarding having no options other than Sky is clearly incorrect. If you simply want Freeview and recording facility then get yourself a BT Youview recorder, you should be able to pick one up via ebay for £30-£40.
