    Some potentially good news -

I just phoned back Hastings to establish WHEN my 7-days grace period would end

    - and a very helpful chap in Customer Services told me as I was informed on Saturday 11th May of the Cancellation, it would terminate on Saturday 18th May at 23:59, BUT...

...he added that if I find new insurance EARLIER than on Saturday 18th (i.e. any time between today and Friday 17th) - I can call back Hastings, and tell whoever I speak to that "I AM WANTING TO CANCEL BEFORE MY CONTRACT ENDS"

    - and that way, the REASON for the Cancellation becomes in MY favour, i.e. it becomes ME leaving THEM - not THEM giving me the boot

    - and that's all I need to tell my new Insurer (with the exact reason being down to me to give, e.g. I wasn't happy with "X", so I left).

He also cautioned that when getting quotes from new insurers that I shouldn't be putting down (as I do) that I have 20 years No Claims - in case that causes yet more misunderstandings - and that I should put down the Maximum No Claims number of years that my LAST insurer gave - and he has confirmed it will be NINE years from Hastings - which is the Maximum years of NCB they give)

    - and gave me a history lesson on why insurers are no longer interested in 20 or 30 years no claims instances (because roads and cars were less safe then, so a totally different ball game).

Either way, he was very helpful - and has given me an "out" it seems...

P.S. I didn't mention to him the "Change of Vehicle" as the (wrongly) written cancellation reason - although maybe he has seen it himself.

Maybe I can give my new insurer the "reason" as me cancelling on Hastings being "I wasn't too happy with their expensive ADMIN FEES"

I've never had to give a reason for cancelling my insurance to subsequent providers.

Followed the helpful Hastings guy's advice, by finding cheaper insurance, then phoned Cancellations, and told them I want to cancel a day earlier than their own planned cancellation date. Also got my maximum no claims proof bonus from them, so hopefully all will be well hereafter.

Now just waiting to see what Axa say about the Peugeot insurance...
