What's the problem with single rate though? Isn't that what you need with no storage heaters?

Just a quick update. Bulb have accepted that I don't have economy 7 and that my meter is only registering single rate readings. My old smart meter is being replaced this week with a SMETS2 meter and my gas meter will change later on, but the important thing is that I will hopefully now end up with reliable readings.

I apologise in advance if this is not in the correct place and for the length of the post. I could do with some advice please

In June 18 I bought a house that had smart PAYG meters installed. I did not want to stay with the company I inherited as their bad reputation preceded them, but could not source at short notice another suitable supplier. I therefore had the meters registered to me as credit supply meters. I was never able thereafter to monitor or read my meters using the IHD and after 6 months of struggling I switched to another supplier..

I was fully aware that I would lose whatever smart capability I had through the IHD and that I would need to take manual readings. When I switched I read my electricity meter (keypad 6 x 4 presses etc). My meter did not show RO1 and a separate RO2'reading. It showed RO1 (xxxxKwH) followed immediately by another lower reading - also KWh. No amount of subsequent presses would show "RO2". I submitted these readings which were substantially lower than the Estimated readings on my bills and had to supply photographs to validate them. This was in February 19.

Since then I have had an ongoing argument with my new supplier (Bulb), because my meter now only shows one reading. There is no dual reading, no second reading at all. I don't knoiw why the meter was dual rate in the first place because I have gas fired central heating, not storage heaters and the only electric consumption at night is from the fridge and plug sockets.

I don't believe that my meter was correctly set up by the installer (Utilita installation - former supplier) as every thing I see tells me that this is a Single Phase Meter taking single phase readings.

I can access historical readings and these show that dual readings ceased to be recorded the month I switched suppliers. Also if I add together the historical readings since I switched and add them to the lowest reading I had (it was the night rate) I get a figure that is comparable to the current meter reading with a small difference that I figure is my current usage.

How do I get my energy supplier to accept that my meter has gone from dual readings to single readings?

    Is this a faulty meter?

I dont think so, because I really do think that it was not set up correctly either when it was installed or when Utilita changed it from PAYG to credit.

Utilita were unable to take readings from the meter from June 18 when i bought my house right up to when I switched supplier in February 19. They blamed that on a lack of 3G signal, but they were able to take readings from the smart gas meter which is situated 2foot away from it.

    Thank you
I think I can guess the original supplier, British Gas, and the original user had a free time tariff that gave the Monday to Saturday 09:00 or Sunday 09:00 until 17:00 and put the reading on an "ACT 2" and the meter type is a Landis Gyr. Even after the free time tariff ends it still puts the eight hour period of free electric into the "ACT 2" and changing suppliers will mean your new supplier will get either the "ACT 1" read or total read but not the "ACT 2" read. I think only BG would get the correct reads from this smart meter, as the read will not have been stopped from giving a duel read. In effect you are getting eight hour free electric on either Saturday or Sunday, Bulb will not have this read and you might have to take three photo's of the readings Total, ACT 1 & ACT 2 then email them the images and what each one of the "ACT 1" & "ACT 2" reads measured and the total is of the two combined reads.
I am also with Bulb and was on their free time tariff then moved to Outfox the Market who only had my correct read correct for a few days after I thought the total read was the one to give them but ended upo with a £275 bill in one month, you would think I had a cannabis factory in the flat, but after them putting it right for a few days and myself putting in the total read again just before I was told the free time should be a separate read and how to access it they did another £280 bill then I gave them the three reads and they put the free time read as my monthly read but charged me on the "ACT 1" reads minus the free time no matter how many email I sent them they continued to put in the free time read, even though I gave them all three reads from the electric.

Have Bulb asked for a photo of the meter? if not email them the meter and photo's of the three reads, make sure you get the make of the meter in the reads if the make is above the window.
Someone please tell me what money is

Good guess but BG will not have used the Secure Liberty 100 meter for their Freetime tariff. It sounds like you have migrated away from BG s , now abandoned , Freetime tariff without BG doing an OTA clearing of the 3 rates on your Landis Gyr meter back to its original single rate tariff. The meter was never an Eco 7 ( because of the wiring to the meter ) therefore its BG s job to clear this because it will only cause havoc when you move to suppliers like Bulb who are not clued up at all. Their call centre staff also will be clueless. BG need to reinstate the meter and only they can do it.
I would make an Ombudsman complaint if BG don t act immediately act to reinstate the meter ( or come out to exchange it ) and you will receive compensation for the mess they have left behind.
ACT 1, ACT 2 will not make any sense to most meter readers. I worked for BG on Freetime tariffs and our meter readers frequently messed up the Freetime tariff reading anyway.. We work for Bulb too but we will mess it up just the same.
BG are the only supplier to dip into the murky waters of a Time of Use tariff. It was their experiment..Freetime did nt work but may the next ones will which are surely coming in the future once the roll out is more complete
  • Hi my liberty 100 twin night and day tariff meter only shows ONE reading when pressing 6 four times and strangely enough it's the OFF PEAK VOL1 reading ..even though we checked it at 2pm in the afternoon which is peak time! !..and it gradually increased when using the electric oven!. I pressed 9 and got the total reading for both night and day. Maybe VOL1 reading I got was a actually the peak day reading as it was increasing and to get the night off peak reading I have to subtract the reading I got from button 6 from the total reading I got on button 9??..any advice please?

    Wrong !

If you want to pay up to 41.94p/kWh, just switch to Bulb !
