Different truck on a different day from the normal waste/recycling collections.

No garden done on the same day as recycling every other week, general waste alternative weeks. Nicking a bin with a sticker would work round here for garden waste.

As with many other security products, I don't have to outrun the bear, I only have to outrun you.

Its more pointing out its so poorly designed.
    They supply a bit.
So a larger bit, security bolts and washers could simply make it so much better.
Hell I could save myself buying one and steal it from someone else by its supplied design

One of my neighbours has recently started putting rubbish in my bin. I really wouldn't mind but the first lot wasn't even bagged properly and it ended up splitting and going everywhere. It's a bin, I don't expect to eat my dinner off it but I do try and keep it in a reasonable condition.

They frequently dump furniture and white goods on top of the entrance and when it was Christmas, they left their rubbish out for 10 days. I can see them taking advantage of my bin as everyone has been give a 120 litre bin - which are those small, narrow bins,

If you let them put rubbish in your bin, it might stop the area from looking a mess?

We are in the same situation as Davesnave, we live in the country and bins are left at the ends of lanes on the main road so the bin lorry can collect them. We all have had to purchase our bins. We have general waste, recycling and composting. Our general waste bin is usually pretty empty but our composting bin, well we quite happily use the others that are out because we take turns in cutting the verges and the grass has to go somewhere. We used to take turns in taking it to the recycling centre but with the three or four composting bins here we let the council collect it

When I litter pick it goes in who's ever correct bin has room for it

I really couldn't care less who puts their rubbish in my bin, as long as there is room and its the correct rubbish. Id rather rubbish in the bin rather then blowing about and ending up in the hedges and verges
  • I mind when my bins with allowed contents (garden and recyclable) are (rightly) left by the council because they are contaminated. Then I have to sort through other peoples cacky rubbish, once including animal waste. Yep, I sure do mind that.
I don't give a hoot what they put in my landfill bin. If I'm lucky the collection comes early and I can get it back in quick. If they're a bit later that's when it's at the end of the street all day for all to use. I do phone the council when it happens though, just for a record, as a precautionary measure against the fine they can dish out.
A bit of grin and bear it, a bit of come and share it

  • Another thought... in answer to the original question...
Could you return the bins, or gift them to you neighbour(!) and just drop your stuff off at the local tip. I have a friend who does this. She freezes her food waste in a tub with a lid so it doesn't smell in the meantime. Like you, she lives alone so doesn't make much rubbish at all. From memory she has a 500mm base unit with one shelf. she has an old box on the top shelf for recyclables, and a laundry basket type thing on the bottom shelf that she has a bin liner in for landfill. When they get full she makes a trip to the tip next time she's in town. I can't remember why she started it, but it might have been something similar. she is meticulous by nature, and would find this sort of thing distressing. If you wanted to avoid a conflict on your doorstep it could be a way forward, or food for thought anyway.
