Natwest SAR

Options
I recently did a 'did you have PPI' check on the Natwest site. Today I had a letter from RBS saying that they cannot locate any accounts for me. Do I now send an SAR? Do I put every single previous address or just the previous address at the time of said accounts.

Also if I want to send extra details in reply to the letter today, is there a customer services email I can use as I prefer that to phone or post, is that possible?

Thanks

    You can do.

Put your history down during the period you were a customer. The more they have, the more likely they will find something.

However, do be aware that nowadays, the online PPI checker tools are pretty good. if they dont find it, then its unlikely a SAR will show anything.

Dont use email. its unreliable as banks are notorious for not picking them up or they do the rounds without anyone actually actioning them.

The online form only allowed for one previous address. The account with PPI was held over 2 previous addresses. Obviously I do have accounts because I had one just a few years back, but that one was not one I had loans etc on, so that wasnt one of the previous addresses.

Also, towards the end of said account my partner was added as joint, the loan previous to this was just mine solely that was paid off. Do I just sent SAR for myself or do we both sign and put details, or does he do one separately?

    Many thanks

Just fill it in as many times as you need to in order to include all relevant addresses.

Alternatively, send them a letter detailing all the pertinent information ...

So there isnt a restriction on how many you can send in with the same name?

Questions about a particular bank's website and online checkers etc only the Bank can answer.

As I said earlier, send them a letter detailing all the pertinent information and you won't be "restricted" at all.

Does knowing the bank branch help at all? My account, credit card application, overdraft extensions were all done in my local branch where I lived at that time.

That's certainly more information you could include, although branches themselves won't respond to a SAR request. Again, this is a question only the individual bank can answer.

It seems to me that if you can type messages on this website, you can also type and print off a SAR letter to the Bank which will circumvent all these "obstacles" you are making for yourself. Simply include details of all your previous addresses, the branch, your name and date-of-birth and ask them to send you any or all details they may have kept on file for you with specific reference to any PPI.

By the way, the Bank have already told you they can't find your account, so expect nothing from this venture and you won't be disappointed.

More about what little time you have in making sure what you put is relevant, and to the point, I need to get this right, not overload the PPI/ or SAR with irrelevant time consuming clap trap.

PS: as I already have an ongoing claim for the whole account that surrounds the whole PPI (that doesnt seem to think the account is unfindable) I think im OK in thinking that my accounts are available to find

You need to realise that Banks generally keep records for around six years, so even if they have already acknowledged other more recent PPI, they may well have nothing for older finance..

As everyone here can only guess at what the Bank may (or may not) hold on file for you, all of your questions are best directed only to the Bank from now on. However, please feel free to update the thread in future as that may help others in a similar situation between now and August...

Wow, ok il go and ask elsewhere for advice on how to put particular info into the SAR so no time wasting (only until August to make a complaint and they have 40 days to do that, and the last thing I want is to get another reply saying 'cannot locate accounts) . Actually it is just the one account, already have the complaint for the whole account being mis-sold (advantage gold) all my PPI. loans, charges...all the same account. I can't actually believe that the departments cant have some kind of database where its all available to every department etc :/
