    Starts with a NIP - Notice of Intended Prosecution to check you as registered keeper were the driver, then, a letter later, onto court.

    You could just take the hit, pay online & post in your driving licence (presuming it's in order?)

    You'd need a fairly hefty reason to keep your ticket clean - so unless you desperately want that, swing with the punch?
    Another NIP is not required in this case. Normally the purpose of the first NIP is the attached S172 to ascertain who was driving the vehicle at the time of the offence. In this case the OP was stopped by the police at the time of the offence so there is no doubt who was driving. Secondly the officer handed the OP a NIP at the time of the offence.
