Caught Speeding

Hello,

I got caught speeding through Richmond park today. The speed limit is 20mph because of the risk of deer walking into the road and I was going 36mph.
An officer was around the bend with a speed gun and stopped me as I approached.
He issued me a notice of intended prosecution and said I will find out within 6 months.
I have a clean licence and have never had any criminal conviction.

I completely understand that I shouldn't have been speeding and any excuse is not worthy enough to put others at risk due to my stupidity.

What do you think is likely to happen?

Oh deer. You'll have to wait and see but perhaps points and a fine, or perhaps an invitation to a course.

At 36 in a 20 you will most likely get a court appearance, where you get an earnings related fine, plus costs and 4-6 points, it is too fast for a course or fixed penalty.

Doe. On the usually quoted figures, 36mph in a 20mph limit is not only above awareness course territory, but is (just) above fixed penalty territory, so it will be a court date. Make sure you fawn to the magistrate, else you'll roe the day...

Starts with a NIP - Notice of Intended Prosecution to check you as registered keeper were the driver, then, a letter later, onto court.

You could just take the hit, pay online & post in your driving licence (presuming it's in order?)

You'd need a fairly hefty reason to keep your ticket clean - so unless you desperately want that, swing with the punch?

No, s172 to the keeper within 14 days to ask who was driving, then NIP to the person who admitted driving - if it was a photo...

But the OP was stopped roadside, so the NIP was delivered verbally there. The next step is that they have 6mo to launch prosecution.

Richmond park is notorious for speed checks especially as it's one of the few places cyclists have to stick to the limit so it's easy pickings for them at the bottom of the hills.

It's perhaps a technicality, but you can be done for "cycling furiously" under the 1847 Town Police Clauses Act if they saw you on the roads doing a stupid speed - with the addition of genuine speed limits in a few places like parks.

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

I wonder if the OP is the guy who was driving inches from my rear bumper through Teddington last week and even had the audacity to twice beep me for doing 20 in an 20 zone.
