So it seems to me to be a bit of a smokescreen,0

Well apologies for not responding sooner!
Memory jogged by a weekend money article that comments upon ethical investments and 'greenwash'
Must admit we have found it difficult to get comprehensive info regarding the ethical nature and trying to balance that with performance has been nigh on well impossible. The article (in the Times) challanges it to be done in two days activity but we have failed over several months so have just been sitting on the fence.....and then maybe wishing we ignored ethical natures and just stuck it it Monks!! So really not living up to my wish list principles!
If there are any more ideas combining true ethnic investment along with now global and or infrastructure areas I will give further consideration. Fortunately my dithering has probably had little effect on the portfolio.......
The aim above is really to diversify a bit with more middle of the road funds/trusts in terms of risk (volatility is acceptable) and a balance of income and capital gain.
Reflection: probably asking too much!!!0 -
If you've little exposure to green investments. Then Impax Environmental Markets Investment Trust would be a step towards improving diversity.0

Thanks. It was mentioned a while back too....but I forget why it was discounted.
Will ave to look at it again!0 -
"I'll not hint at what we have looked at so far so as to be open to all suggestions without pointing in particular directions except geography and type. Mix to produce about 4% yield or equivalent.
"
Can you reveal what you have looked at ?Win Dec 2009 - In the Night Garden DVD : Nov 2010 - Paultons Park Tickets :0 -
I have made a smallish punt on VT Gravis Clean Energy Income Fund (gb00bfn4h461) as a balance to the oil stocks that frequently seem to be part of equity income fund portfolios.0

LH & Mark.....just wrote a post but lost it. Not ignoring you but will have to regurgitate tomorrow!!0

Suggestion only: One that has done well for me and might meet your criteria is Royal London Sustainable World. Maybe worth a look. A bit heavy on UK- split 53% Europe, 47% US, 0% Asia - .approx 85% equity, 15% bonds. OCF 0.77%. Est 2012
Comes out well on Citywire ranking https://citywire.co.uk/funds-insider/sector/aggressive-gbp-funds/i2698/?periodMonths=60&page=1&expandedList=trueI don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0 -
'A balance of income and capital gain'. Does that mean both of those in similar amounts in one fund, or a fund of gain and a fund of income? Or either! And why?0

Quick response for John as I am called to dinner!
Either as long as I can maintain aims and diversity!
I currently mix the investment side of portfolio, hopfully to get best of income generators and those going for pure gain with a few mid way trusts!
Seems to work over the longer term (10+ years) with an average FE risk score of 101 have met income wishes and beaten most if not all the main indexes such as AFI, FTSE, inflation etc.
Happy for that to continue but expect green/ethicals to affect it detrimentally -would love that to be wrong!0
