Thank you all for your reply, especially to Gary, who can not see far from his nose.
Probably, what stinks is you.
@!!!
Why are you mocking their security questions? I did not say I am mocking the security questions.
I passed my password, memorable information, all personal information they asked. I could not answer a question where I spent 6 pounds, and they decide to block my account. So good luck with this bank if that is suspicious activity.
Gary and I wish the same experience to you. When you need to go to the doctor and you can not pay for your appoitment when you can not buy food since Big Brother bank blocking your money without proper reason.
@DCFC79
Why was the OTP sent to a number that wasn't yours? This problem is ongoing with Halifax, and you can check other forums a lot of people having the same problem.
Had you not updated Halifax with your new number? No, my phone number is correct
If you don't remember where you spent £6, well.. I've no idea.
They're not classing the £6 spend as "suspicious activity", but the fact that you couldn't answer where you spent it is to why it was blocked (apparently).
I have private medical that covers me for any doctors or hospital requirements, plus I have monies in more than one account and credit cards from various lenders, so I won't have any issues, but thanks for your concerns.
There's no "Big Brother" syndrome here - just your failure to understand how a bank must operate when it suspects suspicious activity.0 -
If you are having problems - avoid the whole bank group i.e. Lloyds - not just the non-banking entity HBOS that has no bank accounts. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Gary never ever sides with the customer. He always suspects people of wrongdoing and or trolling/spamming/lying. It is NEVER the corporations fault always the poster. Just the way it is with Gary.0

@!!! do you also have insurance for buying food?
Anyway, it does not make any sense to talk about this topic with you.
I told the person in the call centre. I need to login into my online banking to answer his questions. He told me it is too late.
@!!! probably you have a good feeling from someone else misery. If that is true, it says about your personality
P.s: thank you, everyone else for your suggestions but not Gary.
Indeed I will change my bank. I am a customer of Halifax for many many years, and if in Scottland they need to check every single payment of mine then it is Big Bro company.
In the end, they will lose
Can you imagine this will happen when you are on holiday? Where is no goddam branch of Halifax.
They have right blocked the transaction but not freeze the whole account you can not receive your salary, do any payment, withdraw money,...0 -

No I use money, as stated above already.0 -
...I have monies in more than one account and credit cards from various lenders...I work within the voluntary sector, supporting vulnerable people to rebuild their lives.
I love my job0 -
Much the same as for anything in life that is "absolutely vitally essential"
You must always have a second option or a reserve for when it goes wrong/breaks down: - and it will sooner or later.
I do think that we need a sticky at the top about bank freezing accounts, why they do it, what happens next, the law the banks have to follow.
To @Jury
Yes they not only have a right to freeze accounts - they have a duty under UK/EU law to do it under penalties of heavy fines and prison sentences for individual staff members if they fail to do so if they suspect there is anything untoward about the usage of the account.
That can be anything from serious AML offenses such as receiving money from sanctions blocked countries to an account being 'sold' by a foreign student when they leave the county to a some fraudster (nice of them eh?) Indeed not knowing what some recent transactions were might be an indication that the person on the phone is not the account owner.
If you wish to rant aim it at your MP and MEP - they make the law.0 -
@Uxb1 do you think anybody is checking MPs how much do they spent in ASDA0
-
@DCFC79
I was able to verify myself( security questions, memorable information, where I live, date of birth,...).
If you are doing 50 transactions in a month, do you remember all of them? Every single Pound you are spending.
The point here is different
Anyway thank you for your input0 -
