Some pretty good petrol mpg's here.....Funnily, i've been pondering a small Caddy sized van to facilitate a side project i'm going to work on. I havent seen much movement yet, but in theory markets like pickups and vans are likely to be hit by the upcoming downturn.Would be interesting to hear if anyone has direct experience? Why? So you can argue with them?0

Folks life's too short in my book. It's smiles per gallon not miles per gallon that should count.0

I get terrible MPG as I commute in and out of central London everyday.
Currently my Abarth 595 Turismo is returning 22 mpg, it's improved from 19 mpg as it's loosening up a bit!
I'm hoping for a bit more loosening, then I might be able to get to and from work without a visit to a petrol station.0 -
58mpg from a rented Bmw F803 M3 at 50mph going to manchester from brum0

According to the onboard computer on my 1.6 Ecoboost Focus - 99.9 mpg.
Well that's the instantaneous figure anyway.... average over a long trip - best is about 46 mpg. Not actively hypermiling - just driving according to the conditions on trunk roads. Nearer 38mpg if I've just been urban/suburban driving.I need to think of something new here...0 -
70MPG out of my 2.0 TDCi Mondeo with a car full of people and a boot full of luggage on an 600 odd mile trip going to mid-France. Started off with a full tank in East Yorks, made it to about 50 miles south of Orleans with over 1/4 tank left. No hypermiling involved, just lots of sat on cruise control at 70MPH with little or no speed variance for dozens of miles at a time. Normal commuting and running around is 55-60MPG, 35MPG when towing a 26ft long 1.5 tonne twin axle caravan.
40MPG out of my 2.0 MX5 MK3 on a 2000 mile round trip to Millau, France, again no hypermiling involved. Normal use I get 36/37MPG.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I was thinking more about the efficiency of modern petrol engines and how it's improved over the years. Probably as much to do with cd ratios/gearing/driving styles etc.... Especially the M3 figures mentioned above even if the displays are 10% (or so) out?Folks life's too short in my book. About 15mpg out of 2.25 petrol...0

I am regularly getting 64 mpg per tank of petrol from my VW Polo 95 PS. I expect it to improve as the summer arrives. The best journey last year was 84 mpg over 40 miles according to the onboard computer, which is over 75 mpg in reality.0
