M4 vs. M40..? Quick advice needed!

I have the choice of these two to get to the M25 in the early hours of tomorrow morning.

Anyone happen to know which would be least beset by delays and restrictions at night currently?

From Bristol, the M40 would be a very odd choice.
From Birmingham, it would be the obvious one.
