:hello:
how you all doing? thought as i was feeling a wee bit better (and in a wee bit of a chatty mood) that i'd give a little update !!
wel, where to start?? feeling in a remarkably chipper mood this evening, the beechams flu plus sem to be working well, the nose has dried up a touch (lovely, sorry for the detail) and aside from a very annoying tickly cough and a feeling hot, fluey and weak I feel quite a bit better, even made it into town for an hour or so today!! :j
Well, I frog marched OH (ok he said if it would stop me nagging then he would go) into HSBC re the bank charges (I only nag as i'm so concerned and don't want him to loose out on money:o ). aaaanyway, in we go and spoke to an amazing guy, who reviewed OH's account, he has been over his OD Limit every month since we moved in together, sometime by as much as £360 and the charges he has had... well... anyway this guy was absolutely fab (he even told OH to consult mse!:j :rotfl: ) who told OH that he would refund the latest batch of charges if he would agree to a few criteria.
1) that he would sit down and work out what his incomings and outgoings were each month
2) that he would agree to use his shadow account with no overdraft as his ONLY spending account (and he would only send him a solo card, even though he was entitled to a switch card and cheque book)
3) That he would give up his switch card for the account he has at the mo to either me or his parents and not use it unless in an emergency.
3) That he would consider where he wanted to be in 5 years time and how his current lack of responsibility towards money would help him get there.
He is going to review OH's accounts in 6 months and will have another meeting with him then, if he has remained within his overdraft limit and complied with the above then he would upgrade his card to switch then, If not then he will remove his switch card and cheque book facility to his other account!:D
I tell you, this guy was pure gold. OH had a real chat with him and opened up about his spending problems, how if the cash point gives him money, he feels like it is his money and therefore is entitled to it. net result= £100 refunded:j
I asked why when I have been advising him to use 2 accounts for months and to work out his SOA he has resisted so strongly, told me he isn't going to do it etc and he replied "your my other half, so it's my job not to listen to you listen to you. He is my bank manager, of course i'll listen to him"bit of a kick in the bits that one but just glad he is getting it sorted out.
So to Mr HSBC man in Norwich, as an obvious MSE'er, if you read this, thank you. the worlds banks could do with more advisors like you. Keep up the good work.
I went into waterstones today, £20 gift card clutched tightly in my little mitt like a child in a toy shop! I was a very very good girl. could have walked out with 5 books but no, I limited myself to the 2 that I was looking for to start with. SO I can proudly state to all you women out there... Richard Hammond is sitting on my sofa as we speak:j I have 52p left on my giftcard and earnt 58p on my waterstones reward card! so a negative spend in the book shop! wooo:j
I've also been accepted for 2 mystery shopping companies, signed up to valuedopinions and had an AQA researcges pack e-mailed across, being ill does have it's benefits, plenty of computer time!:D
Feeling a bit guilty right now as not been giving much help to the newbies lately, bad P BAD!! so off to take a browse of some of the newer threads while watching good will hunting, drinking water and waiting for OH to get home.
Big hugs
P

Oh what a nice bank person! It must be frustrating that you've told him alll the same things before but sometimes it does take a stranger to make someone open up - it can be easier to talk to someone when there's no emotional attachment - probably why people come on places like this and feel they can talk to people! I wonder if I can find such a nice bank person - mine charged me £38 last month for a £2 direct debit that bounced
Well done on your restraint in Waterstones - I haven't been in there for ages in case I spend too much, tend to get books off Hitflip and Abebooks online these days. Have got some vouchers from Christmas to spend too but they're all going on stuff for the flat!
Have you been accepted for AQA? If so can you give me some tips - am on a mission to raise as much extra money as poss this year, really need to get stuck into the debts plus I want to get away a bit as well, have loads of holidays to use and want to do something good with them!
Sorry for the long ramble.. just got in from a night out and don't feel like sleeping so I thought I'd come on here and talk nonsense :rotfl:xxDebt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0 -
Good that you're feeling better & that Oh listened to someone, even if it wasnt you! I a a day behind you with the cold - nose running like a fountain & beechams not kicked in yet. Back to bed in a mo me thinks. As for whatshisname being on your sofa aint no competition from me!! Odd bloke me thinks!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Pania, that's great news about your OH's bank manager - sounds so incredibly what we could do with more of. I did laugh when you asked him why he hadn't taken similar advice from you ... sometimes guys seem to take advice better from other guys ... think it's a tribal thing. Thanks for your posts on here - have been reading the MSE forums every morning with my cup of tea to inspire me for the day over the past month or so. Have meals all planned for the week and I'm finally eating things out of the freezer as well as putting in a couple of meals for the coming weeks. And today is 10p listing day on Ebay!
Hope you get better soon.0 -
Great news Pania!! Never mind that it wasn't you who he listened to, at least you dragged him down and put him in front of the right person. Let's hope the lecture has sunk in and he will soon be a proper DFW like the rest of us.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620

Hi P, hope you are feeling better.
Hopefully the "talking to" by the bank will allow OH to have his proper LBM. Will you be looking after the other switch card? If so, chuck it my way, then there is NO way you can relent unless in a real emergency
Are you around for coffee tomorrow or Monday? OH is working, but I will be at home with the kids all day if you fancy an hour or two away from Richard Hammond.....!!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. How amazing to find a bank employee like that! Thats really good news - now, I wonder where one is around me..... its good to be back, I'm wanting to get stuck in now but am finding it just a little bit hard to get going. Perhaps start with making the kitchen fit to receive the supermarket delivery in an hour or so, then go into town to play. See you later!2023: the year I get to buy a car0

hello peeps!! sorry i've been rather quiet, feeling much better today so normal service to be resumed. Not much to declare right now other than I spent £4.80 yesterday personal spends, but £42 in tesco, but that comes up of the food budget so my personal spend was £4.80 (popped into the bar to see the lovely hypno, had to get out of the house and needed somewhere warm to go!)
However the day before, when i was poorly... and at home... I somehow managed to spend £17 in tesco on 3xtesco finest ready meals, pringles and monopoly!!!!!
Must do better P MUST do BETTER!!!
Heading for a no spend today though which is great, food in cupboards, drink on shelves we're doing ok. I have £400 put to one side as i honestly have no idea what Januarys pay is going to look like and i may need it to top up, but I'm guessing that even if i have an incredibly frugal month then I will be able to overpay my debts by about £200 at the end of the month.
checking my e-mails for mystery shops like a mad person, want to get started!!! ;-)
right need something to eat, then to get showered then popping out for a while. back in a tic!!debt @05/11/11 £12210.63!! slowly chipping away!!:heart2:impossible is nothing.:heart2:0 -

Helloooo!!!! :hello:
Just back from a break away out of the house at the lovely hypno's. had a cuppa t and a girlie gas which was great! :T However....
My NSD has gone a tad to pot.Stopped in at the local budgens to get my £10 for the week, Didn't realise that the shop had a cash point so bought a can of red bull and packet of boasters biccys in order to get my £10 cashback! stoopido!!!
off to do a blitzs of the house as it's driving me crackers right now then settling down to an evening infront of the ironing board!:o needs must and that need definately must!! the ferret is actually starting to use the ironing pile as a springboard onto the dining room table, thats how mountainous it is getting, so definately definately needs tackling.
Once I have got that done I can start to paint again without feeling guilty that there is other stuff i should be doing! I used to spend alot of my teenage years drawing and painting, It was so engrossing and relaxing that many many evenings passed in a sketch filled haze and boy do i miss it. So i asked mum for a painting set for chrimbo. and boy she didn't disappoint. acrylic paints with some canvasses, paintbrushes and even a little wooden easel to go on the table top!! I was in heaven! can't wait to get started on it so if i make sure the housework is up to date i should be able to crack on!:T
Will give me something to do in the evenings until i have saved enough for the CBT course I have spoken about before.
Squirrel hon, sorry i missed you, Not been accepted for AQA yet but have the pack to work through at sometime. Will give you any hints or tips i can as soon as i have done it. I'm with you on the mission to raise as much as possible!! got to get this sorted once and for all!!! why can't we go back to peppercorn exchange? I got thoooousands of those!!!
Hiya enjoylife, fab to see you on my diary and good to see a new face around, look forward to hearing more from you soon? big hugs.
Have a good evening!!
