BT default on equifax

HI,
I have recently found out that BT have added a default a default on my Equifax credit file in May 2017, three month after I left BT. After investigation I found that there was a final bill generated for £28 and because I didn't paid it on time, the default mark was added.
From past 1 week I have been chasing BT to pay and get that default removed but no Luck as BT says that the debt was written off and I don't owe anything.
I also raised a dispute with equifax but I doubt it will yield any result.
This is really causing me too much stress as I am having difficulty with the mortgage application.
Don't know what to do next, as it was just £28 which I could have paid if I knew it will cause me so much trouble?

Try one more time at asking for some goodwill, but you may need to live with it.
Use a decent broker for your mortgage.0 -
So why wasn’t the bill paid at the time?
Did you cancel the direct debit too early?0 -
Yes looks like I cancel the direct debit quickly. At the same time while going through my mails I saw the final bill amount in June 2017, and I tried to pay online but it failed. I ignored it thinking may be some kind of spam or error and I dont need to pay anything.
Last week while talking with customer service advisor from BT they confirmed I did tried to pay in June 20017 but it was too late as the default was already added on my account.
Now I have raised complaint BT and they came back to me mentioning they have fixed my account but when I speak to equifax, they don't have any kind of information at their end.
The problem I am facing here is not able to contact the credit team in BT, everytime I end talking a customer service advisor and they don't have much clue how to help me.0 -
Contact them via their forum.
You will get help from a UK based team who should be able to help0 -
I have contacted them through forum they just forward me to equifax. I raised a conflict through equifax but that also failed. Called their billing team so many times but no luck.
Now I am clueless what next I should try
Any help will be highly appreciated 0 -

Who told you this? Do you have it in writing?
Have you checked all 3 of your credit files? Does the default show on the others?

I'm going to presume you have a solicitor, you may want to get them to write to BT along with your proof of the above where they told you the debt has been written off and threaten them with legal action to remove the default as it is hampering your mortgage process.I'm a Board Guide on the Credit Cards, Loans, Credit Files & Ratings boards. I spoke to them again last week. FInally found a helpful customer advisor, who told me that the debt file has came back to BT from debt collector 1 week back and in a months time it should be changed to settled and default should be removed automatically. I am not convinced as another advisor told me the same. What you say, should I raised another query with equifax? or wait till a month.
Also the default is only on equifax, I have checked experian, call credit and uk credit ratings, none of them has the default on my name.0 -
Wait for BT to remove it.
Little point going to Equifax as they will only contact BT as you have already done.
If 2 advisors have told you it will be removed I don’t understand what your issue is now?0
