How much is a 5 yer old toyota auris worth with 100k miles?

Or possibly a lot more than 100k.

"Although its racked up almost 100k miles by me" suggests it has done more.

" So had it toed to Toyota and they charged me £110 for a diagnostic check, then quoted me £2000 for the clutch replacement and a few other parts like master and slave cylinder. Even though their website says £610 for basic clutch replacement, they said their quote includes the other bits and pieces too. "

Those are NOT "bits and pieces" at all, they are expensive parts and will mean expensive labour to remove, fit, bleed and make work. If a DMF is needed, even more expense. The problem is that you do not understand what the whole job involves: not your fault, your daily work and experiences do not include mechanical repair issues, but you should really ask around friends and family about this.
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.

Thanks for the replies, DMF isn't mentioned in the quote but noticed release bearing is. According to other forums on what the symptoms are of a faulty release bearing are, I didn't have any of them.

It really would be wise to recognise the benefit of that being done when everything else is: you would have about the same labour cost to replace that small piece if you don't change it and wait until it does demonstrate the symptoms described in other forum.

The release bearing is part of the normal 3-part clutch kit: Driven plate, pressure plate, release bearing. The kits are usually around £80 for petrol cars and maybe double that for a diesel. Did my Hyundai myself for £80. £2000 seems way too much for a clutch on a normal car. Its double what I've ever paid to buy a complete car in over 40 years motoring!
