Was there any reason why you legally wanted to drop your first name? It's really not necessary, although if you don't there may be issues of identification.

Where I come from it's quite common for children to be named after their parents and so it's usual for people to be known by their middle names. But in the last 61 years I've never felt the need to get rid of my first name - it's never caused any confusion.

(That last bit may not be entirely true. For NHS purposes I'm happy to go with my first name as the NHS sometimes finds it difficult to cope with just middle names and staff assume you are known by your first name. I had an interesting experience as an inpatient for six nights in February when some of the nurses realised I was known as XXX but other staff continued to use YYYYYYY. Dunno how they found out. Didn't seem to confuse them but it did confuse me!)

How did you change the name on your passport? (I still need to renew mine and can't remember the process).

As many others are trying to explain to you, unless you got it done by deed poll, then it's not legally changed, as others have mentioned, the regular name used by many may not be their birth certificate names.

yes by deed poll otherwise I couldn't have a passport without the original first name, as far as I know..

the whole point is that I'm worried DVLA will fine me because I didn't tell them at the time, that's all.
Even the HMRC has my name updated, it's just the DVLA who doesn't

There's no point worrying about it. They'll either fine you or they won't. I suspect they won't.

Don't understand why you felt the necessity to change your name at all. As I've explained I've got through 61 years without any problems.

I mean that my passport has one forename only. So legally the other first name doesn't exit anymore. Only on my driving licence :cheesy:
    What makes you think that?

AFAIK the only ways in which you can change your name from what's on your birth certificate (apart from marriage) are either

    1. By deed poll, or

    2. By formally advising everyone you have dealings with (banks, utilities, finance companies, DVLA, NHS, employer, passport office, etc.) that you now wish to be known by another name.

What you appear to have done is to make a false application for a passport.

See #24. Apparently they did it by deed poll. Might have been helpful to have that in #01 :).

I already said I'm not buying into your thought train on the topic (to me I see it as attention seeking).
AFAIK the passport office and Driving license share the same ID details.
