My VED is £20/year and I switched to a monthly DD of £1.75. Due to Tesco dropping the DD's on their savings a/cs I was searching for others and considered the extra £1 per annum worth it to get another DD. I also switched council tax, water bills and TV licence to monthly payments for the same reason.

Why do you get the option for DD at £20/year?
Mine is £30 and I only have the option to pay in full, not that it really matters for £30.

I still have the v11 paper reminder from October 2016 showing the payment options...

    One off -
    6 months N/A
    12 months £20

    By Direct Debit -
Monthly £21 (monthly payments of £1.75)
    6 months N/A
    12 months £20

I started the monthly DDs in October 2017. Maybe they have removed the option since then but my VED continues to be paid this way.

I pay mine in 1 go but I don't think I get any other option.
I had my V11 reminder in the post today. It gives me 5 options to pay:
    1. 6 months - £110
    2. 12 months - £200
    3. Direct debit
      1. Monthly - total £210, approx £17.50/mth
      2. 6 months, one-off payment of £105
      3. 12 months, one-off payment of £200
So if I wanted to pay for 6 months only, I would actually be better off doing it by DD and then cancelling the DD! Very odd.

They also state "Direct Debits are automatically renewed unless you tell us you no longer have the vehicle or make a SORN". They omit to mention that I can cancel a DD any time I like!
