    No, I'd really rather not close what is our main, long-standing account. 7+ years. Especially just on the off chance.

    It's a very long story which I won't go into. I just wanted to know about the possible repercussions on me if I did need to return any money.
    How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)

    In that case, don't close it but tell them you have.

    There will be a paper trail on their side so if there are funny goings on with them they cannot hide them easily. If they have informed you of the reason they want to transfer the money and you fear that your involvement would be considered collusion, then that is another question. You cannot discuss it with your bank, but possibly you could discuss it with a solicitor as a hypothetical question without naming names.
