It hasn't happened.. yet!! I was just curious as to how to return money if.
Basically an ongoing discussion over the 'principal' of some money (not the amount) which, knowing what they're like, could result in a "well have the bl**dy money then" and in a fit of pique they make a transfer. How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)0 -

Do you mean that you have made them a loan and you don't want it repaid?0 -
I think that’s meant to be principle not principal.0

Yes, principle, predictive text fail!!!!How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)0

It looks like this is a case of the OP discussing their financial difficulties with their family without considering the possible consequences of doing that. One of those consequences is an offer to lend or give money.
Through experience, I would avoid if possible getting family members involved in your financial situation.0 -
It is a complicated family finance situation, but I can assure you it's not my financial stability that's in question, it's the rest of them!!!How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)0

As this is hypothetical anyway, why not take a preemptive strike and transfer the identical amount this person was going to give you to this person?
Then they can gift it to you, everyone's back where they were and feelings are sated.0 -

Do they know your bank account details?
If yes, a bit drastic but depends how much you want to avoid this situation, you could change your bank/and or account details.0 -
If you don’t want it, I’ll happily take it off your hands0
