London has special problems with regard to finding affordable help in the home and garden and I wanted to point out that this isn't a recent thing.
Back in the 1960s, people would look at my (then!) long hair and exclaim, "Oh, good, you're British, so you'll understand what I'm asking you to do!" Even then, persons with limited English were working for the agency that employed me.
The agency attitude was also "Take it or leave it," in the sense that customers who wanted an hour of work for, say, cleaning the entrance and yard of some flats, had to pay for a minimum of 4 hours each time. However, from my POV, it was a super job!
This gardening forum has relatively little traffic compared with others on MSE. There was no harm in asking here, but I agree with taff that a local ad, perhaps on social media too, might yield better results. Your idea to share your plot for a share in learning skills is good one.

I would even offer a small patch of soil for them to grow their own veg. Wow what an offer!
I wonder if local colleges would be interested.Yes Thanks, I hoped this avenue would be quicker
Facebook groups are the way to go, I always see posts about gardeners on my groups.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Thanks again for everyone's advices guidance.
This has been my first attempt to find a gardener & my first go at joining a forum.
I’ve been extremely naive, didn't realise how hard it would be to find a gardener with terms & conditions to suit me so thanks everyone for your candid comments.
So back to the drawing board for me,
I shall give my local community a try again.
I’m bowing out of this forum now, taking your ideas, comments with.
Goodbye & thanks again
