  • I couldnt find a price of a 3-day travel card on the TFL website but found this -

    3 Day Travelcards (Peak)

    Can be used all day on each day of validity and for any journey that starts before 0430 on the day following the expiry date.
    3 Day Travelcards (Off-Peak)

    Can be used from 0930 Mondays to Fridays, all day Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, on each day of validity and for any journey that starts before 0430 on the day following the expiry date.

    www.tfl.org.uk

    If you want to get an Oyster card, you can also order one online now for free, or you need to leave a £3 deposit if you buy on on the day.

    There are greasy spoons everywhere, I couldnt really name one now of the top of my head. If you want a cheap breakfast, I think BHS still do the 6 items for £1.99 breakfast. There's a BHS on Oxford Street, right next to the Oxford Street tube. (BHS breakfasts, my saviour in my student days when ive had a big night out!)

    If you want cheap meals, have a look online and also join the Covent Graden Restaurants Priviledge Card. It gives you meal offers in a number of restaurants in CGarden.

    If there's anything else I think of, I'll post!
    Lovin Boots and other bargainous places!

    You don't need the Oyster card to be able to get a 1 or 3 day Travelcard for tube/bus travel. In fact it's cheaper to buy a 1 day card every day than buying the 3 day one (the guy in the station even advised us of this when we tried to buy a 3 day pass ;) ).

    Adult = £5.10 a day off-peak
    Child = £1 a day

    Have a look here http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tickets/faresandtickets/1055.aspx for more info. You just need a Zone 1&2 travelcard which you can use to hop on and off buses and tubes all day, as well as getting discounted fares on the river boats.

    PS If you're staying at Travelodge then they do a great breakfast there at a good price. All you can eat buffet style (full English and Continental breakfasts) and children eat free with paying adults (approx £6-£7 depending if you book before or o the day).

    You can currently get tickets for Billy Elliott using your tesco clubcard vouchers. Check out the tesco clubcard website. It is a brilliant show.

    When you arrive buy yourself a copy of Time Out magazine for London. It will list all the events in London, including free events. You can view the site online but a hard copy will be more useful if wandering around London.

    By the Tower of London and you can buy fish and chips with ice cream, 2 for 1 so £5 for two. There are two or three places there, right by the ticket office. Good value and edible!

    Enjoy London, it is a great city.
  • Hi,

    We have started going to London quite regularly. We usually get a family rail ticket which gets us onto the underground and all the busses. We have been to natural history, science, V&A, british museum all for free. Used clubcard vouchers to get into the dungeons and the tower, but recently, the best day was to Camden. I had not been for years. My kids had never seen a proper punk in real life before, only on the telly! A very enjoyable, free and 'colourful' day was had by all - just a word of warning - leave the credit card at home - it's very tempting! ha ha
    C Card £5218.68 (Feb 2011)
    £2 coins (No 085) - £190
    Mort overpayments 2011 - £418.06

    Thank you

  • I think there are some 2 for 1 deals if you travel by train or Oyster which have been posted on this forum loads of time. Being a Londoner I have no idea if these touristy deals are good value :)

    You can't miss them, there are two or three places and they are right next to the ticket office. The biggest has a roof area where you can sit and overlook the Tower. Might be a bit chilly at the moment though.

    I hear they have an ice skating rink in Hyde Park.

    They also have them (or soon will have) at Somerset House, Natural History Museum, Tower of London & Greenwich.

  • There are quite a few places to get breakfast around the Covent Garden area, one of them is in Drury Lane. It's a Cafe, can't remember it's name, but it's opposite the TravelLodge. Very friendly staff, and reasonable prices. If you fancy a drink, 'The Angel' in nearby St Giles High St has reasonable prices, and good beer.

    OH and I went ice skating at the O2 yesterday - we had the place to ourselves for an hour! Oh well, it gave all the people visiting the Tutankhamen exhibition something to look at!
    The attendant there also said there is a rink at Canary Wharf that is also good - right in front of the Canada Square building, might be worth considering?
