What to do in London?

I have managed to get two nights at the travelodge in London at the beginning of January in the sale and our travel to there is sorted. I thought I could use tesco deals for meals at night etc but I am not sure about what to do in London. Two teenagers are going too so that is four of us. I was looking at the prices for tickets to shows and it is pretty expensive. Any ideas?

I was going to take my kids up to London next weekend, I hear they have an ice skating rink in Hyde Park. I would check it out, try and get some info from the web first.
It might be an idea.
Good Luck

If you go to Leicester Square there is a ticket shop directly on the Square that sells cut price tickets to theatre shows (you usually have to go on the night that you visit the Ticket Shop). You can usually pick up tickets aat half price which is fab. Foodwise - reasonable eats of hearty food can usually be found in Garfunkels - I like the one on Leicester Square best (a hot meal can cost about £6.95). The Texan Embassy near Trafalgar Square is also good - great Tex Mex food.
Namco Station in the County Hall on the South Bank is a good place for teenagers - upstairs they have dodgems (50p), bowling etc. Down by Tate Modern, also on the South Bank beyond London Eye there is usually a snowtube run - great fun for kids and adults - quite a reasonable price.
The various museums/galleries are usually free (except when there is a special exhibition on and then you have to pay to get into that).
Hope this helps and enjoy your trip to London. BTW best go to a newsagent and get an Oyster Card - put some money on it - you can use this on the tube and on the bus (bus fare with Oyster card is 90p per trip but if you have to pay cash then it will cost you £2 per trip). Can't speak for the Bus tours though. Also there is another trip - an amphibious thing that goes along the roads and the river.0 -
Just had another idea, look out for the money off vouchers in the lobby of the hotel that you stay in, they have discounts to meals/shows/bus tours etc.
Cheers

I too have had another idea - If you register with Pigsback.com you can print off vouchers for London - free drinks/food etc. Which might be a help. Pigsback is free to join and you earn points too (points equals money). Just go to Pigsback Local London to print off vouchers.0

For daytime activities Covent garden is a great place to visit & seems to appeal to both adults & teenagers. Camden Lock market is a fab place for teenagers to browse & it has something for everybody.
Perhaps you could check out www.lastminute.com nearer the date for some tickets for shows & the like. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
Battersea Park can be fun but you have to pay for parking (even at weekends) which is a pain. It is popular for walks and you can hire bicycles to ride around it.0

Free museums! Science, Natural History, V&A, British.
OXO Tower is mostly free except for special exhibits. The man without a signature.0 -
Hi, I too managed to get 3 nights at £19 a night at Covent Garden Travelodge.
Just sorted out our train fayre tonight, with Family Rail Card.
There is a couple of things I'd like to ask.....
we'd like to travel round on the tube, is that cheaper than the bus? It's years since we've been to London, but we'd only need travel in the central zone for 3 days. Also when arriving at Euston, I'd like to buy the travel tickets to use straight away to get to the Travelodge.
Cheap breakfast around Covent Garden??
Ghost walks???
Can the public go into the Old Bailey to watch a trial??
What is in the OXO Tower??
If we queued at the ticket booth in Leicester sq, would there be any chance of Grease Tickets??
Thanks in advance:j0 -
Get a Oystercard to travel as this is cheaper. You can buy three day travel cards which get loaded onto your Oyster. When you buy tube passes, you can use them on the buses too, so it worth buying Tube passes, then you can hope on and off the tubes/ buses/ DLR within the zones you have paid for.
Have a look at Toptable.co.uk for restaurant deals in London. For breakfasts, dont be scared to try the greasy spoons!Lovin Boots and other bargainous places!0 -
Hi London-Saver, thank you.
Can I buy the Oyster Card, and load it with the 3 day pass at Euston? What age does a child become an adult as far as the Travel pass is concerned? Mine are both 16.
Don't mind greasy spoons, I'll do the diet when we get home! Are there any near Covent Garden though?:j0
