Bought new house and need advice

Hello.
I moved in to my new house today and need advice.
Not all the lights are working, the water in the kitchen sink is not going away, the fridge isn't turning on, the dish washer is turning on but nothing is happening.
The home report which was only done in January this year didn't state any of these issues and when trying to speak to the estate agents and solicitors today I wasn't able to get through.

Have you checked the fridge socket to with a light to see if its the socket of the fridge that isn't working?
Same with the lights. move light bulbs around to see what is and isn't working.
Check the fuse box to see if all the circuit breakers are switched on.
Sink. Go out and buy sink unblocker. Pour lots of boiling water down it and failing that take the U bend apart to see if thats blocked.
The home report is unlikely to spot any of these faults as they sound more like the joys of buying a house rather than fundamental issues with the houseThose who risk nothing, Do nothing, achieve nothing, become nothingMFW #63 £0/£5000 -
When anybody moves into a new house there are niggles they discover.
It's part and parcel of home ownership. None of what you've listed is worth trying to argue about, unless the dishwasher and fridge do turn out to be non-functioning.
As said above - find the fuse box - see if all the switches are facing the same way. One might've just "tripped" and gone to the off position.
Good luck ... I'm sure you'll find a ton of niggles and things you never noticed when viewing. That's how it is. You can now spend 10 years correcting it all ....then sell it and the next person finds new niggles

England or Scotland?0

Basic stuff. Yes it should all be working ideally but a few new bulbs, some drain unblocker and a bit of jiggery poker should see you right for most of it.0

Reference to a Home Report suggests Scotland, in which case the OP is likely to have some warranties about plumbing/electrics from the standard conditions in their offer - which their solicitor ought to have explained to them at some point in the process. Unless it was a repossession or similar in which case caveat emptor applies. Nothing much they can do about it until Tuesday anyway. As above, some of it may well be easily sortable if they get someone more practically-minded in to fiddle with things.England or Scotland?0 -
I've checked all the switches at the fuse box and it's all turned up, so might just need to check the wiring.
The property has been empty since February so not sure if that has played a part in some issues.
I live in Scotland.0 -
Best check what your missives say about it, if you can't remember.0

look for switches nearby that could isolate sockets that are under counters and behind appliances.
Is this a new home or just new to you?0 -
I'm a first time buyer, so that's the only new thing here.
All switches (including some under counters) have been switched on, but as stated previously some are not working.0 -
If this is a brand new property (as opposed to new to you) then contact the developer/builder.Is this a new home or just new to you?
Is there a warranty?NHBC?
Otherwise as this is Scotland, check the Scottish rules - I understand in Scotland there's a 7 day window for reporting issues like this and getting the seller to rectify, but that's just heresay I've picked up from this site so I might well be wrong. Ask your solicitor but asap as the clock ticks........0
