As a pet servant of several cats this is a time of year where flea treatments are at the forefront of my mind as my furs all go out and I'm no fan of their supporting band the Fleatles...
There are loads of options including off the shelf, vet prescribed and even plans through chains such as Vets4Pets where you pay a monthly amount and get your flea, worming and jabs for that amount. Some prefer getting their prescription from the vet and ordering online...

I would urge people to NOT save money by buying Bob Martin flea treatments. There have been reports of animal deaths following use of these products.
The other thing is not to use on cats flea treatments formulated for dogs as, again, these can prove fatal for cats
These are both cases where the adage 'Penny wise; pound foolish' apply! It's not difficult!
'Wander' - to walk or move in a leisurely manner.
'Wonder' - to feel curious.1 -
Our local vets subscribe to the Healthy Pet Club, which gives us free vet visits, free vaccine boosters and free flea & worm treatment as needed, as well as reductions on the cost of other treatment. Our Neville is quite an old cat, so is definitely getting some good out of the monthly fee!
Would recommend everyone check if their vet (or another locally) has a similar system, and doing the maths to see if they could make it worth it!0 -

I also do this and have found it makes things much easier - especially helped when we had an unexpected injury (minor but did need sedation - which is expensive!) last year.0 -

I bought a dog flea collar which I think was Bob Martin from a decent pet shop. Within 24 hours my dog had an open sore on his neck due to a reaction to the collar. I wouldn't touch any brand of flea collar now.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
I pay a monthly fee for my cat £9.99 a month for Advocate monthly flea treatment and 3 monthly worming tablets.
I also buy RIP Fleas from ebay - a 500ml spray can to treat carpets/flooring which protects your property for up to 12 months. It kills eggs, larvae, pupae and adults. It costs over £20 from your vet, but it costs £12.90 on eBay (as of April 2019) obviously prices will increase, but still a lot cheaper than buying it from a vet and you don't need a prescription.0 -
I buy a written prescription from my vet for 12 months forc1 of my cats & then buy advantage plus on line which includes worming treatment, total cost £10 for the prescription & £72 for the flea & worming treatmemt whichvworks out at less than £7 per month.
DONT buy cheap stuff like Bob Martin etc, get your vets advice on what works best as it dies change from year to year.0 -
Please anyone reading this, avoid Bravecto treatment at all costs, its not worth the risk. Huge group on Facebook called 'Does Bravecto Kill Dogs?'
Spend 10 minutes reading there, then avoid the lethal stuff forever please0 -
Worming tablets- the well known brands eg Bayer & Ceva are widely available from on-line pharmacies without the need for prescriptions, at around half the prices charged by vets.
I generally use VetMedic (based in Derbyshire- have used them since I met them at Crufts.) Other reputable online stores available!
Do not buy such things as Bob Martins
My dogs don't get fleas so I don't use flea treatments. In the past have bought Advantix (for ticks) from vet.Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!
