Beware! - Today's BT broadband £29.99 is not fixed price

Martin Lewis on TV this morning mentioned a broadband & landline deal with BT for £29.99, 18 months fixed! Beware, this is not a fixed price for 18 months but you will be in a contract with them for 18 months. I just had a discussion on line where I nearly signed up with them thinking I was getting fixed price for 18 months, but after a bit of probing realised they can freely increase the price from March 2020. When I asked by how much, they didn't know, but said they thought it may be by 2% but with no guarantee, could be more than that.

Thats a good thing, it means you can leave early and be a new customer elsewhere0
-
If RPI is in the terms and conditions, and it only goes up by ~ 2% you don't have an excuse to leave early like we normally do0
-
Do we have any real evidence on 2% no leave .
As BT Sales recently said i could leave in March 2020 due to price increase .
Though i agree with your reading of Ofcom rules re price increases.
But
from Ofcom.
The subscriber agrees and enters into a 24-month contract for services on terms
that the core subscription price will be £10 per month. The contract also contains a
term to the effect that the CP may increase the agreed core subscription price by
up to a certain amount, percentage or index-linked level (such as RPI). Ofcom is likely to treat any exercise of the discretion to increase this agreed price during the fixed minimum term of the contract as a modification meeting GC9.6’s material
detriment requirement.0 -
How can you leave in " March 2020 " ?
Interesting about ofcoms interpretation0 -
Leave as thats when the price increase kicks in March 2020 .RPI Jan 2020 will be the increase marker .
<BT
We're changing the way we increase our prices. From 11 January 2019, if you sign up to a new contract for a landline (including call charges, features and plans), broadband or mobile, the monthly price will increase every year from March 2020. That increase is based on the Consumer Price Index rate of inflation which is published in January of each year.>0 -
are you out of minimum term contract by then?0

Me no just signed 18 months .(Others will be flooding the forum come March 2020 .)
Plus though i may pay a price rise i am not able to leave as i will have a couple of BT CS special discounts that i would lose .0
