New Santander Visa Debit card but for 8 months?

Not sure if this is the right place for this

I just got a 'replacement'/new Visa Debit card - as my last one [after many years] was about to expire

I noticed this one ends on 12/20 [so is only for 8 months]

Why would they send me one for such a short time

Is there some reason to this - that they want everone to get cards running to the end of December [?]

I'm just curious, and I couldn't word a question in Google to get an answer

It isn't the right place (Banking board is probably best) but the answer is likely to be tied up with Santander having agreed a deal with Mastercard to issue their debit cards rather than Visa ones. They have 9 million cards to migrate so I expect the batch that you are part of will get new Mastercard debit cards in December.

Edit: And that'll be December 2020, which is 20 months away, not 8 - this is 2019!

12/20 is next year though so you have 20 months not 8?
