Times taken to obtain replacement cards fails to mention that MetroBank replacement debit cards can be issued in store within minutes.
  • When you see that nauseating advert from Barclaycard you'd think the average punter was having to freeze his card every five minutes. In reality it's a once - or twice - in a lifetime requirement.

I'd agree. I've lost my cards twice, once when my wallet was stolen and once when I lost the wallet only to have it found and returned (with cards but minus cash) 3 weeks later. In both cases the cards were all cancelled the same day and new ones issued. I suppose if you lose a card, know where it is but can't get at it for a while a temporary block might be useful, but for most people that's surely not something they'd need very often.

I lost cheque book and cheque guarantee card together with wallet circa 1986 when I was young and foolishly left it in the car on a hot summers day. The thieves cashed every single cheque in the book and used the driving licence to rent a car which they subsequently failed to return.
I lost my wallet through pickpocketing in a foreign country circa 1998 containing many cards which were used on a spending spree in local up market clothing stores.
I lost my debit card a couple of years ago when it was retained in an ATM then subsequently used in offline retailers for small contactless purchases for a short period.
I suffered no personal financial loss on any occasion.

Virgin Money have just released the latest version of their credit card app which allows card holders to freeze their cards temporarily. I've used the freeze function on several occasions on my Lloyds debit card, especially when I'm abroad. If I'm not using it, it just seems logical and safer for me personally to freeze the card for extra security.

Careful with that one. If loads of people were to start doing it, it wouldn't be long before it became a T&C that you had to freeze your card whenever it was not in your possession.

I may be a little sexist here but bear with me - if you ladies lose your bag does that mean you lose your purse with your cards and your mobile - so how are you meant to freeze the card LOL??
--Or if you lose your phone with the card slipped into the back of the phone case what do you do?

Can't see that working. A lot of mail-order companies only charge the card when the order is dispatched, so that system would fail if the card was frozen.

About time these legacy banks moved into the 21st Century.
I expect Halifax will have a dreadful advert, ripping off an 80s film, in about 2023 about this amazing feature!!

Legacy Banks might even start listing pending transactions in app in a few years....
    Maybe even a gambling block...

I think many of them do already? I regularly use the apps for Santander, Halifax, Lloyds, Barclaycard and Nationwide, and they all show pending transactions.
