Best way to extend Wi Fi signal to Garden room
Comments

Wouldn't recommend running Ethernet cable externally; it would need to be armoured and weatherproof, otherwise there is a strong risk of corrosion, lightning strike, damage, etc. Plus getting it through walls above damp course and sealing pretty much makes it a specialist professional installation.
We went with Powerline extender and Wifi Access point as the garden room has a power feed from the main house.0 -
Thanks all. I'm going to see if TalkTalk do anything similar to the BT home system. If they don't I will have to hire someone to come and do it for me. Talk Talk will charge a lot I suspect so where would I go to get someone with the know how to do this. Not an electrician, not a plumber but ....what trade would I be looking for in my neighbourhood?another option you could consider is putting your current router at the rear of your house, near a window and see if that would cover all your needs
Our router is at one end of the house and we can't even get signal at the other end of the house on the patio. I suspect even if we located the router in the kitchen the signal would be too faint to reach the new office cabin.0 -

You can buy mesh systems online they don't have to be provided by your isp.

if you meant who do you ask to do cabling or setup this sort of thing an IT engineer should be able to do either. Our router is at one end of the house and we can't even get signal at the other end of the house on the patio. Powerline might be better but mesh can work it depends so much on your house walls and on the router you already have0 -

Thanks. I've just been looking at mesh and they are good for extending wifi around the house but my office is 40' from the house so it might be too far to bounce off the nearest mesh.0 -

As I say powerline is the simplist in that case. (Though for example I have an mesh system with one of the mech antena outside so it can be done)
Use distance selling regs so you can try and return without any risk!0 -
We've got a Kuma Wifi Kit, they're designed for caravans and boats but it works a treat. We leave it set up permanently but you can switch it off when you've finished and it reconnects automatically. Good little thing0

Catbells said:Thanks. Do I just plug the master disc into my router and then trail the cable up the garden to my office and that will do it? I was thinking I would need something a bit more tech but it sounds straightforward.0

Similar items are made by DLink, Netgear etc.
It really is Plug & Play. You can also buy addition wireless units to extend the WiFi throughout your house. I use two them for complete coverage, including the garden.
