Well, if that's correct its it's all a bit backward as there's no need to tell everyone separately when the JC and DWP do their job as expected. To clarify, when I spoke to the DWP I called the number on an ESA letter I had recieved. I spoke with the correct department, just a different part of it apparently, which I couldn't have been expected to know.

The council who award housing benefit and the DWP who pay your ESA are not even the same organisation let alone department. How would informing one let the other know?

I have just checked the government webpage on benefit overpayments and this has been rewritten. Apparently the law on overpayments has been changed to remove the 'administrative error' clause, although I'm not sure whether this is in effect yet or whether it applies retrospectively, but the information given at the time this happened was different!

Poppy, it would be appreciated if you read the thread. The snswer to your question is there.
Thanks but i did read it and you failed to report the changes to your local council. DWP and the local council are 2 totally different departments.

This isn't an administrative error, it's your error....

No one is saying the government changing the law is an administrative error. Neither is it my error. Poppy, please read what people have written before commenting. Thank you.

Polly, everyone else on this thread has been helpful and reasoned. I understand you want to defend yourself but your comments have not contributed to this thread in a positive way.

(As mentioned above) All I can say from an outside perspective is that it has multiple times and did this time!
