Many (most?) body shops will charge more for insurance jobs. Or to put it another way, will discount their price for retail customers (owners).
£400 is not that much - professional jobs by reputable bodyshops are expensive, especially when arranged via insurers. But you get proper paint jobs done rather than just a quick re-spray.
Sure, a local garage can knock out a dent and spray on some paint for far less, but will the the panel be replaced or the dent knocked out? Will the dent be still noticable? Will the paint on the panel exactly match the paint on the undamaged panel next to it? ........0 -
I agree with some people that as a new driver declaring it through insurance will make your premium rise so much that you wish you would have just paid the 400 and forgot about it, just maybe consider getting it in writing that the 400 was paid to settle the matter, otherwise go through the insurance. To be honest 140 ish is cheap for panel and paint repair and doesn't seem like it will be a decent fix but hey who knows you may have got a sweet deal just make sure to check reviews. Best of luck to you.0
