Cladding or render

Options
My house has ugly peddledash render on two side starting at the level of the ground floor window ledges and going up. It is blown in places especially round the bay window which I believe is lath behind. I was planning on having it removed and replaced with smooth render (and the lath replaced) but I noticed a house nearby has cladding and it looks quite good.
Which is better - cladding or render and how do they compare price wise?
Thanks

    What kind of cladding?

We just clad a barn in larch and it cost a small fortune. The wood isn't cheap, and the labour is, well, laborious.

Rendering would be less expensive, I suspect, even with the removal of the previous layer, which may or may not be necessary with cladding. Getting the batons plumb on pebble dashing would be a task though.

Cheap cladding! The house I saw had a modern grey wood effect plastic.

I imagined the old stuff would have to go but now I am wondering if that would be the case with cladding. It is only on two sides so not sure how the corners would work.

I know very little about cladding.

You want to put up cheap plastic cladding because your pebbeldash is "ugly"?

Composite cladding. The peddledash has come off in some places and damp is coming through on the bay window so it's not just the aesthetics.

    I’d go the rendering route.

Plenty of plasterers out there clogging K-Rend and other coloured renders these days, it looks good and is pretty much maintenance free. They would remove the old pebbledash first, which you are best doing if it’s knackered, otherwise your just covering up defects.

Cladding doesn't age well. Smooth render can be repainted and look new

After the render has been removed, take the opportunity to fill the void with good quality insulation.

Void? Will that be behind the lath on the bay?

Yes, you should take the opportunity to review the current construction of all the walls, cavity filled or empty, sold brick. Tinder frame just under the bay or all over? Then should you have external wall insulation?

The house has cavity walls - two layers of brick filled with fluff.
