I love Barbados, I have been there three times, it is so relaxed and the people are lovely. It is so diverse you have the gorgeous golden beaches on the west coast. Cliffs and crashing waves on the east coast and Forrest caves/mines and sugar plantations you can explore in the middle :-)
I have always felt safe in Barbados, we hire a jeep and explore the whole Island, I love getting lost and finding my way back!
Some have said it is expensive not if you explore and eat where the locals eat It all depends what you want.

    Maybe.
But I'm pretty sure not in the way I mean.
    I've looked at Marella ships.
I don't want any of the stuff they're touting.
Not climbing walls, not spas, not entertainment.
    None of it.

Why are you trying to convince me?
What is it about people who've done a cruise who feel it's imperative to convert everyone else?

Are you all Jehovah's Witnesses in training? :(

Are you all fed some sort of subliminal message with your breakfast on board?
    "Go forth and recruit others"
    "Go forth and recruit others"
    "Go forth and recruit others"
    "Go forth and recruit others"
    ;)

Never seen the need for climbing walls or spas either, both will incur extra cost, so I've never looked. Entertainment is generally to West End standard, some of it is also a bit tacky, but there plenty of alternatives during the day and night.

Who's trying to convince you? Not I. All I'm saying is that I used to be like you, and never fancied a Cruise, and for the same reasons as you, PLUS I saw them as a Busman's Holiday too.

But I'm glad I changed my mind, and now I've always got it as an extra option.....end of.;)

We were just ahead of the curve.

Quite often, that's a good thing but on this occasion - definitely not. :(

We've holidayed in lots of places just as they became 'mainstream'.
    Mexico in 1991
    Goa in 1994
    Sri Lanka in 1996

Cuba was the only place that disappointed.

The ignorance of the comments on Cuba is astonishing.
For those who do not know history, Cuba have an embargo courtesy of the United States and the rest of the sheep countries that have followed America.
When did our creator make the USA the President of the world.
There have been worst dictators than Castro. One's man dictator is another freedom fighter.
Vietnam have done far worse to the US, but they are trading with them again. It's all political pandering to the Cuban voters in Miami, nothing more.
For what it's worth, with their limited resources, Cuba's education and highly skilled doctors have placed the education and doctors of some of the so-called developed world to shame.
  • I certainly wouldn't want to cruise for every holiday but as one of three (usually) per year it suits us. We like waking up in a different place every day having looked at what we can do there before we go. We like the flexibility of having all the amenities onboard and the entertainments in the evening after Dinner.

It is also very cost effective as we book ahead and get some great deals via our US Travel Agent. This year we are cruising the Greek Islands and we have a full premium drinks package, tips, Internet access and $950 free as part of the deal, plus full board and entertainment. We will struggle to spend that much onboard credit. We only book with Celebrity or Royal Caribbean as our TA has access to special deals.

What we don't do is AI resort holidays, where you spend all day lying on a sunbed, we like to see places and sights.

    Really?
TBH, if you'd knocked on my door clutching a copy of Watchtower in your hand, I have slammed the door in your face long before now. :D

You're exhibiting all the usual traits of a cruise convert.
    I've heard it all before.
Glad it's 'end of' this particular topic. ;)

    I said I didn't enjoy Cuba.
    That's my opinion.
You do not have to agree.
I've made no comment at all on Cuba's leadership, politics, social achievements or history.
    I don't need - and certainly don't want - a lecture on a country that I visited once over 25 years ago.
    And didn't like.

All Inclusive is my idea of hell too.

In Greece and Turkey we tend to stay in pretty basic self-catering accommodation.
