Virgin-----what a crazy system!!!!!

It seems that I made the mistake of recently accepting the new deal from Virgin, 10GB data + 5000mins.

Was told that I'd receive a new SIM card, which duly arrived, but I decided not to install it for a few days. I then started getting nags from Virgin, so yesterday morning installed it, at about 11am/12pm. Although able to make calls, calls in were going direct to Voicemail. I phoned Virgin to be told that it would take up to 24 hours before the new SIM was activated. 24 hours with all incoming calls going to Voicemail???

Fortunately, I was able to retrieve the old SIM from the bin, and resumed using it. I then got a message on my phone telling me that I had updates, however, when trying to install them, I was quickly told that I needed a pin number which would be supplied by Virgin.

I again phoned, but was told that I would have to wait till the SIM was activated.

At approximately 3pm today, I again installed the new SIM and was getting incoming calls ok. I again tried to install the updates, which I might add had been 'buzzing' me constantly since yesterday, only to receive the message about the pin number!

I again phoned Virgin, to be told that the SIM would be activated some time up to midnight, 36 hours after I had originally installed it!! I again queried the need to install the updates but was told that they were no longer necessary!! I had a rant with the operator about all of this, and was told that he'd monitor my account and phone me when it was activated.

So.......................I'm not holding my breath, and meanwhile I'm still using the old SIM card!

What a crazy system, and all because I took advantage of a new deal. And you can't speak to anyone in the UK to complain about this nonsense!!

Sorry about the long post, rant over!
David.

Just had the exact same issue with the new sim they sent for my partners phone, when I googled it this issue with no data goes back to 2016! you would think they would have resolved it by now?
Finally got it working by inputting all the info in settings myself.
You need to go into settings - connections - mobile networks - access point names and then input the following which I have copied from what i did to get mobile data -

    Internet & MMS APN.

    Name: WEB
    APN: goto.virginmobile.uk
    MMSC: http://mms.virginmobile.co.uk:8002
    MMS proxy: 193.30.166.2
    MMS port: 8080
    MCC: 234
    MNC: 38
    Authentication type: CHAP
    APN type: *
    APN Protocol: IPv4
    APN Roaming Protocol: IPv4
Leave all other options blank/Not set

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks for the info.

My Whatsapp hasn't been functioning properly, messages not coming through till I physically lifted the phone instead of the Whatsapp symbol showing as soon as I moved the phone.

So I did a soft reset and ended up with an 'H' next to the signal symbol on the home screen! So I input your info, restarted the phone, and hey presto, I've got the '4G+' back. So thanks again.

Vm always advise up to 24 hours, but most such "service orders" action almost instantaneously. Their CS have no way of knowing how many such transactions are queued at any time.
