The management, apart from removing the customers who are swearing which you say they were, to the bar, cannot control what people say.

You keep talking about these people who were seated before you, they were a group of FOUR. You were a group of FIVE. End of. I don’t care how tiny your children are, they don’t have to squash them into a space cos you want them too.

Personally I have no idea. What exactly do you think could go wrong with three kids sat on a sofa?

    But it's not a sofa, it's a bench seat. ;)

It's a Toby carvery. As per many pubs, round the edge they have a continuous padded seat.

I haven't been in a Toby carvery since the days of prawn cocktails and Black Forest gateau, no that was Berni Inn, ah nostalgia. I stand( or sit) corrected. It sounds very tyrolean..

Resentley took family to a Toby Carvery, two adults, 3 year old, 8 year old, and 10 year old, the manager said no tables ready will be 45min wait,

    TLDR beyond this point

    I'd've just left.

I have a Toby Carvery near (Gravesend). We used to go regularly, then management changed and its not so good now (apparently it was one of the top rated Carveries in the country). Food isn't so good, staff aren't as good, customer service isn't so good, actual service isn't so good (less people) and the other manager seemed to be there to sort things out and was very helpful, this one always seems busy/harrassed but never to help customers lol. Quite often now you can wait ages just for someone to notice you are waiting and to be seated. That never used to happen. So we don't go as often as we used to. End of.

We have been to other Carveries and how good they are seems to be very varied.

However, they don't HAVE to serve you. As others have said, 45 mins wait with 3 hungry small children would have made it moving on time for me. Just asking for a very stressful time rather than an enjoyable one.

I do tend to prebook though, its easy to do even with a phone. Makes things a lot easier.

If you don't want your kids to hear any swearing then it's probably best not to take them [strike]into what is in effect a glorified pub[/strike] Blackpool.

There you go - fixed that for you :)
