Resentley took family to a Toby Carvery, two adults, 3 year old, 8 year old, and 10 year old, the manager said no tables ready will be 45min wait, we said if no table for 5 seats can use 4 seats as they had bench style seating, so 3 year old can fit in easy, oh it dont matter if 4 or 5 seats there is none left, but after 5 mins 4 people came in, we was sat next to the doors so can see and hear, they walked in a shown to a table, my wife asked why? The manager said its 4 seats you want 5 seats! But we said the bench seating is fine, oh anyway as for safety you must have 5 seats, so do you still want a table! So I had to have a word with him and said you said clear we have no seating 5 or 4 seats so you was wrong, so after 10 mins we sat down, waited 10 more mins for meat to come out, then people next to us was asked, we need this table can you leave! The guy looked at me and could not believe it, then 4 more sat there, they were told we have no Yorkshires puddings! But when they went for food was told now have no Pork, so the guy went mad at the manager, but the manager would only say we are right, no pork but we have other meat to choose, the guy started to shout and use bad language, this was next to us, with my kids looking, then they all left, at this time seen other people not happy, we later paid and left, so sent a email to Toby to complain, but can not believe the reply.
So said the people who went before us had a booking, which is a lie, they never said we had a booking, and the manager said not, then said the people who was asked to leave, they was asked to seat in the bar area, well not the words we heard.
Then said sorry if the bad language offered your family, BUT in all walks of life you will hear some type of bad language!!
Then said I dont understand why you said your wife is not English we respect all people the same.
How can you say to a customer with little kids its normal to have other customers shout and use bad language in front of you.
And I said my wife is Chinese, to point out the manager should talk more clear and try to use communication in the right way, but he was out of order and tried to take advantage and made her feel silly while other customers was waiting and all looking on, hence why I had to step in.
Terrible service and worse reply from a office Manager in customer services.

I went there for breakfast once. They told me there were no tables, yet half the pub was empty. On pointing this out they told me that section was closed off because they didn't want to clean it after breakfast.
Turning customers away because you don't want to clean up. Impressive way to run a business.0 -
Sorry but what on earth.
If they say 5 people need 5 seats, they can do that. Its not up to you, if they dont want 3 small kids squashed into a 2 seat spacer thats their choice.
Sounds like the table next to you was asked to move because of a booking and they had been there 'long enough' REGARDLESS its nothing to do with you why the people were moved from that table.
It is not the managers fault some customers shouted and swore in front of your child. The fact you complained about that to the manager is again, ridiculous. Please don't take your children out in public if you cannot cope with them hearing bad language. You should have complained to the customer, not the manager who had no control over the language a patron used.
Your wife's nationality in this really doesnt seem relevant. I dont see where YOU were not communicated to clearly? The manager clearly felt your complaint was containing a racial edge which he wanted to dampen.
Sorry but why are you so involved in the discussion the manager had with another customer to the point you have complained about it and how this was and wasnt said?0 -
Why on earth even stay? Surely, there are other eating places in Blackpool? The moment I was told we needed to have a table seating 5 and would have to wait, which I didn't want to do, I'd have gone elsewhere.0

Its Blackpool if I had to wait 45min then I would try somewhere else?

while three may be able to squash up on a bench seat there may not have been ample room on the table for three place settings.
If a child had fallen off the bench seat they would probably have had trouble with Health and Safety and their insurance over the compensation claim for injury which you made.0 -
Let me clear a few things, I dont mind being in a restaurant hearing some words, but when a customer is should back at a manager and it's the table next to us, and the manager just makes things worse, why not go to the customer and ask to talk calmly to sort matters out, why stand 15ft away and having the customer shouting, saying F****** stupid.
I did not mind to wait, but he said clear WE having no tables free at all, then someone walks in and gets a table.
What are u on about, being squeezed on a seat, there have long bench seats, 2 large adults seat easy, so a 3, 8, 10 year old is not a issue.
And if all this was not a issue for the restaurant, why are they saying the party who came in after us had a booking! When we seen them come in without saying we have a booking and the manager said to us they did not book, yet customer service or the manager covered up, because, and when we got in we was took to the same bench seating.0 -

So far we've got racism, injured feelings to kids, unfairness, lies by staff...…….
