Giving Notice to a Lodger

No.I am a lodger with no lease or agreement. What rights do I have in terms of notice? Can I be immediatley ejected?
A lodger is entitled to either
* whatever notice was agreed at the start, whether that was in a written agreement or verbally (with the obvious drawback of proof),or
* 'reasonable notice'. As a starting point, 'reasonable' would be a week's notice if rent is paid weekly, or a month's notice if rent is monthly. However other factors might affect this eg if the lodger was behaving in an unreasonable way, eg was abusive, violent or threatening, or perhaps even just consistantly ignoring house rules despite warnings.......0 -
Thanks all. I will give him the notice specified in our agreement and keep it to "not working out" or some variant of that. It will probably come as little surprise to him.
Luckily I took a full month's deposit, which should cover the various bits of minor damage he's caused.0 -

In England Wales and Northern Ireland you can usually be asked to leave with a few weeks notice, depending on how your original contract was agreed.
If you're in Scotland it's a bit more formal as you're actually a special kind of tenant with a few more rights.There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

If you think such a claim could possibly be made by your lodger send it from the post office with a 'proof of posting' when you do so. If they say they haven't received it show them a copy of the proof.
Generally verbal notice with a letter follow up slipped under the door or go in the lodgers room and put it on the bed, should be adequate.
