Financial Associate Dispute on Credit Score

Hi,

I've been using the Money Saving Expert Credit Club for a while now and last month I noticed I've now been linked as a Financial Associate to both my mum and dad on their mortgage account which was opened back in the year 2000.

I've tried disputing the entry through Experian but they have come back to me stating the information is accurate and therefore will not be removed.

I've never had any joint accounts or loans with either of my parents nor do I contribute to their mortgage.

Has anyone experienced this before? I would of been 7 years old at the time of the mortgage account being opened.

Also, would this potentially impact my chances of getting my own mortgage in the near future?

Regards,

Chris

  • Have you raised a notice of disassociation form?

Have you also checked your other credit files to see if it appears on those?
  • I wonder, has this happened because some, maybe all, mortgage providers want to know the names of dependants when you apply for a mortgage? Somehow, your name has been passed by your parents' provider to the CRA as a financial associate. Regardless, you should demand the agency removes it, and if they refuse you sould report them to the ICO.

Does your dad have the same first name as you? Could it be a clerical error and they've linked your records as well as his.

    Yes it definitely would.

As others have stated, you need to check whether this shows up across all 3 CRAs, raise the relevant notice of disassociation forms for each CRA it appears on and if they still don't play ball, then it would be time to speak to a solicitor to get them to take legal action and also compensation.

I'd be interested in what litigation you are proposing. Also, what is the basis for compensation as the OP has, on the face of their post, yet to suffer any financial loss?
