Do I need to replace my car tyre?

....and the aircon's not as cold as is should be......
I've been to a Kwik Fit to get the aircon looked at. They told me it was cold enough already, and they wouldn't be able to get it any colder.
Nothing to pay.If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
I don't understand. Do you now have a valid MOT? Did you have to go elsewhere for a second test?0

Have your failure sheet handy from the Kwik Fit MOT and call DVSA on 03001239000 and complain about them.
They’re clearly putting the MOT in disrepute and if DVSA are serious about these issues, then they’ll take this very seriously.0 -
Kwik Fit just failed my MOT test. It's just a tiny crack, I wouldn't say it's a cut. Definitely can't see the ply. The other MoT centre confirmed with me.
I have noticed that there are some posters that have a downer on Kwik Fit and Halfords, I sometimes think that is because they are a MOT center with garages in the whole country.
Any large company is bound to get more complaints than a small company. But any free or almost free MOT is just a money maker for the garage concerned, be aware.0 -

Last time I took a car to Kwik Fit for an MOT they tried pulling the BG44K scam on me. They said I would fail the emissions unless I paid £20 for a can of BG44K cleaner. Load of bull !!!!.0 -
I would go to another tyre place and ask them to check your tyres.
I went and had my tracking done on my scruffy/"tip" car last weekend and the person called me over to have a look at the tyres; I thanked him and left with a new set of boots too. The car now drives great!0 -

It could be argued that the second MOT centre was at fault. Impossible to disprove unless the tyres are inspected by the DVSA soon after the tests.0 -

Depends on when the test was failed. The OP has already stated the vehicle had 4mm of tread. I’d certainly be inclined to let them know.0 -
The first time I used Kwik Fit was when I was a brand new driver and had just bought the Almera, used, at a spritely 55,000 miles.
Not realising that I never needed to do any maintenance on it ever, or replace it's oil, or coolant, or in fact do anything, I took it to Hatch End KF to tighten up the handbrake tension.
In the course of this they convinced me that the NS tyre was a deathtrap and needed to be replaced. They set this up by sending one of their "fitters" to leer at me and the wife through the window thing where you can see them "working" from the waiting room. He waved a nail he'd picked up off the floor and mouthed something silently, while staring at us goggle eyed, like something out of The Shining, while the other customers shuffled away from us.
On the way home I noticed I had to fight to stop the car mounting the pavement and taking out some yummy mummies jostling to get their fat tyred prams into Starbucks. This got no better. They said they thought maybe the alignment had got knocked out when they changed the tyre.
I went back several times for them to adjust whatever they had done, until after a week the steering wheel was literally about 80 degrees off and the thing could physically not go in a straight line.
Although they were ruining my car for free, I lost faith in their ability to know about cars so I gave up and went to an indy from the Good Garage scheme, who said he had never seen a car with tracking and alignment so far out.
They had also screwed up fitting the tyre, and the valve was damaged. He sorted it out for about £50. You would think I would have learned my lesson but I went to a different branch for an oil change and they screwed that up too.
There is nothing that they can do right, and I would rather let a chimpanzee with a spanner and a can-do attitude work on my car than a Kwik Fit employee.0 -
You still haven't told us what the tread depth of the tyres are?Aylesbury_Duck wrote: »If KF think they need replacing soon, probably about six inches.
Ironically the lease company for my company car insist we use KF for tyres etc. KF wouldn't change tyres until the tread was down to at least <2.2mm else the lease company wouldn't approve the change. (Unless the tyres were damaged in other ways).
So KF don't always advise changes unnecessarily, but perhaps that depends on who the customer is (company car driver or private individual).0
