ive been scammed on ebay

I bought my daughter some toys off ebay for £49.99, seller had 100% feedback.

Paid on my credit card through nochex.

goods have not arrived, seller is ingoring my emails, now emails are boucning bk to say the email addrss does not exist. reuqested their details off ebay, rang them but telephone number isnt recognised.

have contacted nochex who said they cant help.

open item not recieved dispute, closed to file a claim but all i got was email to say ebay will take necessary action aganst seller such as stopping them sellign again or closing their account. nothing about my money!

ive had at least 8 other ebays email me who are in same position.

ive contacted police who are investiagting it.

i cant afford to loose this money, is there any way i can recover it from my credit card company? they say no, but the police are positive i can.

  • Why do the credit card people say no? Is it below their minimum, or because it was nochex?

  • Their is a minimum amount usually £100 or there abouts.
Anyway they will not want to know as the transaction was correct to Nochex it is then that the fraudulent transaction takes place to the seller, your only way of refund is from them pity you had not used PayPal or was that not an option..

It’s because it’s Nochex. But, the credit card company need to get themselves up-to-date. Nochex used to dig their heals in and claim that because they were an e-money provider their service was something more like Western Union, and so there was no way they could be liable for chargebacks other than those for unauthorised card use. PayPal went through a similar stage of trying to deny all responsibility when it came to chargebacks.

If you look at the Nochex website now, you’ll see they offer services from those for people selling in their spare time all the way up to the sort of thing WorldPay specialise in, such has handling the payments for large companies. If you look at the Fraud Prevention page for a Seller Account, they do handle chargebacks in the correct, required manner.

There are some companies on the Internet that offer a number of different ways to pay. If you got a choice of paying directly, through WorldPay, through PayPal, through Google Checkout or through Nochex, it would be crazy if you were told you lost your chargeback rights if you chose anything but the first of those options.

Not really sure what you mean... nochex is essentially the same process as paypal, and it's entirely possible to do a credit card chargeback if you used paypal.

It may depend on whether that particular card tries to play the 'e-money' card.

most CC companies have a min limit of 100 quid. although some will relax their own rules. ive heard of CCs refunding say 50 quid before now.

are you saying the halifax wont accept chargebacks on behalf of the seller or the buyer?
