Dozens of TSB branches to cut opening hours to two or three days a week - MSE News

To callum999 and takmon:
"brats" is just my pet name for the grandkids I love, who laugh at the name. They do not need and indeed cannot go with me to the branch. 3 are working and the other is deep into exams at her grammar school. In any case, I am not as vulnerable as you have so mistakenly imagined and am perfectly capable of visiting the branch myself.
Our local branch is not unnecessary: it is always well served by customers. At no point did I make any reference to not being able to visit.
In any event, see my last post: apparently only Scottish branches are affected. You may know differently, if so please educate us.
So you, takmon, admit that your post was bait? What small amusement does that afford your limited imagination?
I bank online, does that disappoint your imaginative judgement regarding the abilities of older people? However, there are times when I need to visit a branch. For example, I have just been repaid a loan I made to a relative's account. It was repaid as cash, which I need to bank. Occasionally I receive regular cheques, from a source which is planning to replace that payment by other means. I use cash very infrequently now, as I have a contactless credit and a debit card: does that upset your view of older people's abilities too?
That's why i put a ";)" face to show it was not a serious comment, i'm actually quite surprised you took it to heart.
Your relative could have paid that money back directly into your account by bank transfer, this can be done by phone if they don't use online banking (even my grandmother in her 90's can do bank transfers). So it was a bit unfair of them to inconvenience you with cash when you did them a favor of lending them money.
Cheques can be paid in using mobile phone apps so again no other reason to visit a branch.
I'm not picking on you i'm just making my point there really is no reason at all to visit a branch for personal banking and nobody has given me a good reason why they need too.0 -
The only mention of reduced branch hours and/or closures that I can find, refers to Scottish branches. Can anyone find any others?
The current incarnation TSB was (Lloyds) TSB Scotland with various English/Welsh branches bolted on. Hence the Scottish focus of their branch cuts.
Quite clearly a precursor to branch closures / mergers. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
takmon:
My relative did not inconvenience me at all. He originally worked for cash payment when I gave him the loan, although now he is paid direct to bank and can carry out bank transfers. At the time, cash was all he had and that is how he repaid the loan, he is a single parent of two and has worked his way up into a better position by hard work and watching every penny.
You problem is that you are one of many who do not recognise that many other people do not have the resources to carry out their financial affairs as others do. You also ignore the fact that others have perfectly valid, working reasons to visit branches.
I will never use a banking app. I do not trust that system. I'm done with this thread now.I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

If people gave me some valid reasons for using a branch then I would accept that but there really isn't any. The only possible reason that I can think of it that people need to pay in cash but that's easier at the post office which has longer opening hours and more shops.
Banking apps are more secure than using a computer to access online banking for example and nobody has ever lost any money using online banking or an apps unless they did something silly themselves.
Having some unfounded trust issues is not really a valid reason.0 -
I've just received my letter headed "We're changing our opening hours..." etc. - not "cutting" you will notice...
Down from 5 days full opening to 2 days and closed at lunchtime (how convenient for workers).
The letter hepfully tells me where my "best alternative" branch is. Pity it doesn't bother to say that that branch is having it's days cut too.
How long are they going to keep a building that is only in use 2 days out of seven?
And our Santander branch shut up shop today. According to their branch finder our nearest branch is 3 miles away. Yes, if you're a good swimmer. Otherwise about 30 miles.0
