  • Pads rocking in the caliper. Usually happens with new pads until they settle in. You can try taking the pads out and cleaning the area where they sit and grease the guide pins with the correct grease for use with braking systems.

I've just spent 3 weeks trying to find a steering wheel wobble like wheel balancing which occurred at the speed wheel balancing would suggest. Tyres are round, alloys are straight and true, no play in anything, had all four wheels balanced, even rotated them to figure out which it was. Worst part is it wasn't constant so on some journeys it would do it at specific points in that journey.

Finally found out the cause this morning after being forced to take a detour down single track country roads following a RTA. Turns out I'd got a front brake caliper that was starting to seize which reared its head prominently following some hard work on those back roads. Thinking back the points on the journeys where it was giving me the steering wheel vibration was after I'd had to use the brakes and the points where it didn't was where I'd not had to use them for a long time. What was happening is I'd brake, the NSF would then be binding a bit, heat the brake disc sufficient to cause it to warp a bit as time went on which would cause the steering wheel wobble then as the pad wore down enough it would release the braking effort on the disc, the disc would cool, everything would be fine in the world again.

Sometimes a fault just has to be continue to be left until it gets to a point it becomes more obvious.

Very true. I’d say I’d wait for it to get worse but it sounds terrible, and doesn’t sound healthy one little bit.

Mechanics have said they’ve checked the callipers, cv joint, track rod end, ball joint and also I had fitted new brake discs.
  • I had the exact same thing on my wife’s 2005 c2, never did sort it although I suspect it was something to do with the abs ring.

Probably bought it off her lol. Had this problem on and off for quite some time.

What’s the ABS ring by the way?

Had the same problem and that's because the caliper brackets were not seated correctly.

    Thank you! I’ll suggest that!
Is it easy enough to check for that? Or will they have to remove other parts to get to it
