How much to pay up front for flooring?

Hi All
We have just got an order confirmation through for some wood flooring in our new home.
The total price is £4,707.60 (inc VAT) and the payment schedule is as below;
Deposit: £947.60
Commencement of Installation: £3,310
Completion Payment: £450
They seem to want a lot of money up front which we are not sure is correct? Should it not be about 50% or something? Or is that just for builders? I’m just not sure where they have plucked the figures from!
The company is well established and they did the floors in my parents’ house so I know the quality of work/service is good. Not sure if we should try and negotiate only paying 50%?
Thanks

I pay 50% upfront and 50% upon commencement for many things. They're ordering in stock especially, I don't see a problem with what you've been asked for. The fact that they have a reputation as well...
Us builders are lot more generous than our subcontractors and many of our suppliers!Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

I would offer to pay for materials on delivery and work on completion. Make sure you agree how it will be laid BEFORE he/she starts."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Make sure you use a credit card for even £100 of the deposit will give you S75 cover in case they go bust.0

On Saturday I will be ordering the flooring for our lounge. it is paid for up front. next Friday it will be fitted for around £150, I pay this on the day to the fitter! I don't have a problem. You want the flooring, darn well pay for it.

Sorry if I've offended anyone! I'm new to all this and so possibly over cautious and always heard never pay someone up front, or pay half upfront and remainder on completion once the job is done to satisfaction.
We had our house completely rewired recently and we didn't pay the electricians a thing (not even deposit) until the work was done, so was going off that. I appreciate all trades are different though0 -
Thanks for coming back. I know the shop where we get the flooring. It is not a chain. That’s why I will pay up front fir the floor.0
