Sold car - gave buyer V5 - bad idea

Not strictly correct. The car has been sold to someone claiming to be a trader.
It is possible that the person isn't actually a trader but, in fact, someone who wants to avoid speeding tickets and parking fines by driving round in a car registered to someone else.
Agreed, it's a very slim, remote possibility that there is someone out there who wants to have a car, not registered as the keeper, therefore not able to apply for things like parking permits etc, all to avoid paying speeding fines or parking fines.
There are of course, tens of thousands of car dealers and garages (who do a few cars on the side) making it a very likely probability, that the OP has little to worry about.0 -

If the car is showing as untaxed, then the "trader" has put the car in the trade, and you're no longer the registered keeper. Worth a shot, takes 2 mins.0
