Sold car - gave buyer V5 - bad idea

Guy owns a garage so gave me the talk about how he didn't want another owner on it etc.

Afterwards, I thought, hang on, I'm going to be down as registered owner for speeding and parking tickets.

Is there any way I can tell DVLA I no longer own car?

Did you not fill the yellow traders slip in? That's supposed to go to the DVLA.

You can just write a letter telling the DVLA time, date and details of who you sold the car to. you will soon get a letter back confirming you no longer own the car.

Yes appears that is the correct way. No I didn't. Gave him the lot - bad idea.

Do you have a mobile number for him or an eBay username? If not this could be a tricky situation for you.

You can still write giving such information as you have. My grand son sold his scooter for cash and did not get the buyers details, I told him to write, keep proof of posting, and within a week he had a letter back confirming he was no longer the reg. keeper.

Write you sold it to the motor trade giving the name of the garage you sold it to.

Do you have any record of your V5 document number? If so, you can notify the DVLA you have sold the car here: https://www.gov.uk/sold-bought-vehicle No need for the new owners details.

    Otherwise, I’d ring them.
