In the last few weeks I have made a claim on my home insurance. Today I received a letter stating that my insurance has now been made void as they say I have a CCJ against me.
I have looked at my credit report Experian, Equifax and Call credit and they are clear. They all say no CCJs.
I have previously had an issue where my name glad been linked to someone with the same name who had catalogue debts however this had been resolved and as far as I can see there is no longer a link to her on my credit report.
Can anyone offer any advice on what to do?
I have a case number for the CCJ provided by the insurance company but who do I contact?
Many thanks

Sorry it should read been made void
  • I guess the insurance company or the issuing court will need contacting to clear it up

First step is a formal complaint to the insurer, stating the facts (an incorrect previous financial association) to ensure this is not voided (you can refer to the FOS if they reject the complaint).

Then get onto whichever credit agency they use to complain about it being put back on

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Probably best to start with the County Court Business Centre

Thanks, I have contacted the insurance company to find out which CRA they use and am now waiting a call back as the person I spoke to didnt know! I just can't understand what they are seeing as it says no ccjs on the credit reports I have looked at today.

Why? Incurring a CCJ is not valid grounds to void a policy.

You need to check Trust Online. This will prove it one way or the other. Either way, the above statement stands.

Why would a CCJ stop you claiming on your home insurance???

The letter states that because I didn't inform them of the CCJ that that is grounds for cancelling the policy.
I couldnt inform them of something that I know nothing about and is nothing to do with me.
I sent them a letter that I had received from a debt collection agency apologising for the mistake they had made in linking mybjdentitg with someone else's but they have refused this saying it only proves that the address was wrong and not that the CCJ wasn't mine.

They are just chancers. Trying to wriggle out of paying. It's disgusting. Keep at them and they will fold.
